Well, after upgrading my OS to 2.0.0.1188, I am experiencing some weird problems (some of which I experienced before installing Ndless, only worse now), also I have the old blue Non CAS Nspire.

I am finding that I have to press the on key two or three times to turn the calculator on with the click pad and touch pad keypads (this problem is not present in 84+ mode).  Pushing up on the keypad to make the connectors touch always makes the Nspire turn on with the first press.  Could this be caused by the keypad and the Nspire not making enough contact?  If so, is there any way I can fix this?  Having to press on two or three times is almost as annoying as the power management bug.  Thinking back to when I first got my Nspire, this problem did exist, but it was very rare, so I doubt this has to do with the usage of Ndless.  Now it is happening every time I try to turn my calc on.

Also, when I first put this OS back on, this problem did not exist; it only started this morning, after not using the calculator for three days.

Another odd thing that happened was when I put the touchpad keypad in at one point, the calculator did not recognize it as an official TI keypad and would not boot.  I do not get this message anymore (I rebooted and it was fine), but I thought I would report it in case it is anything important.

Well, I switch my keypad a lot.  When in OS 1.1, I removed it a lot because of the Power Management bug.  In OS 2.0, I use the 84 keypad quite a bit.  I don't think it is the keypad that is causing this; I strongly believe this is the actual handheld itself because the same exact problem exists with both the touchpad and clickpad keypads.  It might have something to do with that certain row and column in the keypad mappings, as the column for the on key is not used in 84+ mode, explaining why it turns on immediately using that keypad.  I have e-mailed TI about this.  I hope they have a solution.

Also, the paper trick did not work for me.  Is there any specific spot where you put the piece of paper?  I tried several positions, none of which worked.  Likewise, how big of a piece of paper should I be using?  Also, I wonder what would happen if I removed the two silver spring-like things right by the connector.  They seem to be preventing the keypad from moving too close to the connector (it seems as if the piece of paper allows the keypad to get closer).

Another intresting thing is that this did not occur at all in OS 1.1 (I was always able to hit on, enter to turn it on w/ calc84's program).  I wonder if this could be another power management bug?  I will try downgrading to 1.7 tonight to see if it still exists.

EDIT: I just downgraded to OS 1.7 and this problem does not exist at all any more.  Could this be a problem related to OS 2.0 like the Power Management Bug in OS 1.1?  Sadly, OS 1.7 is of no use to me since all of my math/science documents are written in 2.0 documents.  I wonder if a fix is out there.

EDIT AGAIN: Well, the problem came back after a little while on OS 1.7, so I upgraded again to 2.0.  It is only taking two presses at max to turn on, but I am sure it will get worse.

It sucks that you're having this issue. I'd check to see if your product is still under warranty and see if you can get it either replaced or sent off for repair.

I'M not sure. What if you buy a Nspire and finally it was a problem with the keypad or vice versa? It's an hard issue, really

Regardless, the new ones both look nice... but have you tried cleaning the connectors on both the keypad and calculator. I mean isnt it similar to an N64 with the whole connection thing. Alcohol + Qtip = possible fix? I guesss try it and see.
