Which link cable?
« on: February 23, 2014, 10:48:30 am »
Does the USB Mini-A to Mini-B cable with comes with the TI-84 Plus work for linking two calcs (both TI-84s) together? Also, if you have a bootcode that has been patched with unsigned, can you transfer your OS (2.43) to a calc that has bootcode 1.03 unpatched? Sorry; my friend wants me to transfer all of my "awesome" programs to his calc, and he doesn't want me to take his home for a night.

with my 84+ that cables was included.
And to the OS sending: I don't think you can do that as the bootcode isn't part of the OS, but you could send him unsigned, he unsigns his OS and THEN you can send him your OS.

1) That's the sole purpose of this cable
2) If you patch it with Unsigned then yes. If you don't then no.
Oh, and Unsigned patches the certificate, not the bootcode.

Bootcode is actual code. Certificate is data. :P Think of it like a BIOS and it's setup, but more basic and not changeable without exploits.

If you want to transfer the OS you can do it two or three ways. Here are the ways that I have used:
1): install uosrecv on his calculator, and run it. It should come to a screen which tells you to install the OS, and you should be able to send the OS from another calculator using the USB Mini-A to Mini-B cable or a computer.
2): install Linky, and use your computer to dump a ROM image of your calculator using DFU. Then you should be able to send the ROM of your calculator to his calculator via Linky and DFU. This will delete everything he has in archive, and will put everything you have on your calc into his archive.
and there's probably more but I haven't used those. Also, when transferring ROMs to calculators, it is much safer not to send the certificate, so don't.

Spoiler For some of the calcs I own:

(actually I have quite a few more than this, but I don't feel like making bars for them all.)

Isn´t it easier to send all
I don´t know if this works but i think its possible:
1. take out one battery
2. while pulling it in pres del
3. send him os-backup

as i said i never tried to do it..... 8)

You still need to patch the calc first. Else it will get stuck with no OS until you send 2.55MP back from a PC or a boot code 1.03 calc.
