I didn't notice anything other than a sudden burst of IRC activity... I do live in another continent, after all. :P

It was ~30 minutes by car from where I live (the epicenter, at least). I was in Florida so I missed out on the apparent fun.

Having been in earthquakes before, it's kind of a joke to panic much about the actual earthquake -- but the fact one *happened* here where we never ever get them is a scary thought.

On a side note, this earthquake is spouting tons of memes, especially from California (the land of earthquakes):

Hey Ashbad nice to see you back! And yeah people usually get scared when a 5.0 earthquake occurs where they live and it's the first time they experience this, even though some people are used to 5.9 or 6.0 earthquakes. I guess it's also the fact where we are sometimes stuff isn't build with earthquake in mind, so a smaller earthquake could easily take down buildings, unlike in California, for example.

Where I live the last earthquakes above 5.0 on Richter were in 1988 and 1997.

Nice to be back :) glad I missed the quake :P apparently the people at my mom's work were crying afterwards (my mom thought the quake was actually pretty fun, since she's gone through multiple richter > 8.0 ones before)

Francisco just had a 4.1 this morning, and has been having little ones the past few weeks.

I didn't feel it at all cause I'm in Alberta, so I'm too far away.

I was just about to post about that!  I felt that last night.  Apparently, they even stopped BART because of it too.

Still remember that 2007 Halloween 5.6 earthquake.

Yeah mid-4.0 earthquakes are pretty fun.
