As you know, our biggest goal in Omnimaga is community.  The only way we are going to have community is by respect for each other.  That does mean that if one person is bothered by something reasonable (for example bothered by something other than being banned for an action he deserved) we need to change our actions around that particular person.  Our community is going to hurt if this is not a habit of ours.

I had a friend in my early years of college--not a girlfriend, but a girl friend, if you will.  Unfortunately, even though I knew how upset she was at my teasing her, I kept on going.  Why?  Because nobody else was bothered by how I teased them, so why should she be any different?  She lost it and our friendship broke up, my loss.

"Our community goal is to provide a discussion environment free of any hostility for ALL coders," and so we don't want to lose somebody on the site because he or she feels threatened.  As a poor example, I know that I do not liked hearing the work F**K for instance.  Now, if there were two friends using that word all the time, and I am not involved in the conversation, I shouldn't try to stop it.  It's none of my business.  But I would leave the website if people pointed that word at me all the time

So guys, if there's only one person who doesn't like what you are doing, don't do it directly towards him, even though your other friends are okay when they are involved.  If only one person hates negative critism, don't give him any no matter how many other people like all forms of criticism.  Not knowing what a person doesn't like is reasonable, but we have no excuse once we gain knowledge of a member's personality.

I think that's right, but I think we should try to stop things that are really too offensive.

Yeah, I tolerate cussing, we have no rules about it, but almost nobody does, anyway. I may see things like this is f**king awesome, nice work man as fine, but if someone replied to somebody, calling him out on something, but kept cussing at the person, I wouldn't like. Same if someone's sentences are half-composed of bad words.

However there's a limit, though: I'm not going to stop saying Happy holidays on the site or you lost the game just because one single person hates this. If we have to restrict all of our activities because each person dislikes parts of them, it's gonna be boring and even worse with the lack of freedom. But basically, we just need to remind ourselves that everyone is different.

Agreed.  If one person named Bob hates the phrase "Happy Holidays," he's not going to be able to stop people from saying it to everyone else.  The point is, it's not a good idea to say "Hey Bob, Happy Holidays to you!"
