Affordable student accomodation in Paris
« on: October 12, 2013, 09:48:31 am »
I need to find good accomodation for students (to be honest, one of them is my own daughter) to stay around 6 months in Paris. I've been looking (or googling rather) around and haven't been able to find anything very affordable vs quality? Because we have so many good people from Paris around here, i just thought it would be a good idea to drop'em a line.
If you feel you can help, please give me some directions where to start.
Thanks.

Sadly, "Paris" and "affordable" in the same sentence is rarely going to be real :(

I hope you find something, though, you never know !

Levak and Excale, for example, who sometimes post here, live around Paris, maybe they know what to do better than me (I live in the south of France)

I'm near Paris too. If possible you should look in the suburbs for this kind of stuff. As Adriweb said, flats in Paris are quite expensive. I'd need more info to guide you.

Thank you both AdriWeb and Streetwalker.
@Streetwalker:  we would like to be based, if possible, around the 'Cité Unversitaire' area: Montrouge, Arcueil, VilleJuif, etc
Merci,

In this area, it ought to be less expensive than within Paris ("Paris intra-muros").

What Lionel said. I don't know this area though (only having a bicycle and not needing to do anything there I never go there :P).

Are the cheaper areas safe, though? I heard that certain suburb areas in France were pretty ghetto-ish.

There are worse areas than this one, AFAICT.
Any "large" conurbation (from several dozen thousand inhabitants) has poorer and richer suburbs.

Yeah, a certain department known as Seine Saint-Denis has a really bad reputation. Whenever I go there I keep watching around me to be sure I'm safe. Also Paris gets you this feeling too.

I was more thinking about the Marseille ghettos that are sometimes brought up on the internet, although that's not in Paris, and the Paris areas where riots occured in 2005. Over here in Quebec province we have some rough areas as well, such as Montréal-Nord and most of St-Joseph street area in my city. However, something here that is similar to France is that the rough areas are actually populated well and will not look as bad as bad areas in the United States. In USA, if you end up in a rough area, it actually looks like The Walking Dead or some other post-apocalyptic fiction:

Cool, I'd totally move there.  :P Too bad we don't have any neighborhoods like this anymore in Germany.
