Blender
« on: August 14, 2011, 01:42:51 am »
So yesterday I downloaded Blender cause my sister wanted to add some cgi effects to her stop motion movie that she's been working on. Pretty soon I was checking out the tutorials on Blender's website and made the balloon image. I thought of how I could do more and so I made it an animation. It's pretty simple but I think it turned out pretty well. Creation of the scene took me around 7 hours cause i was still a beginner and rendering to an additional 7 hours cause I was using my laptop. What do you guys think and who else uses Blender? Feel free to showcase your work here. I also highly recommend watching this video in HD

List of stuff I need to do before September:
1. Finish the Emulator of the Casio Prizm (in active development)
2. Finish the the SH3 asm IDE/assembler/linker program (in active development)
3. Create a partial Java virtual machine  for the Prizm (not started)
4. Create Axe for the Prizm with an Axe legacy mode (in planning phase)
5. Develop a large set of C and asm libraries for the Prizm (some progress)
6. Create an emulator of the 83+ for the Prizm (not started)
7. Create a well polished game that showcases the ability of the Casio Prizm (not started)

Pretty cool...
I've used blender once, and all I was able to do was move around some box.  And what the box was for I have no idea :P

I should prolly pick it up sometime, it looks like it can make some pretty epic stuff :D

Dude, for a first Blender use, it is realy really great. I mean, the most of startup project on Blender contains the default grey background, whereas here, you took the time to add an environment map, a controlled reflective effect, many colors...

I'm sure you're going to do wonderful things later if you continue doing like this =)

I've used Blender during 4 years and I can remember its crappy interface under version 2.4x. The new 2.5x one is really great. I don't know (and hope !) if it helps beginners to understand the power of Blender.

Keep up the good work =)

I love the new start-up picture!:p
Blender is now a grown-up 3D modelling software. I think, this is the best modeller I saw. Easy to learn, but powerful.

I'm right now caught between 3DS Max or Blender. Blender is free and powerful, but I like the UI in 3DS Max better. :S

Spoiler For IMPORTANT NEWS!:
Late last night, Quebec was invaded by a group calling themselves, "Omnimaga". Not much is known about these mysterious people except that they all carried calculators of some kind and they all seemed to converge on one house in particular. Experts estimate that the combined power of their fabled calculators is greater than all the worlds super computers put together. The group seems to be holding out in the home of a certain DJ_O, who the Omnimagians claim to be their founder. Such power has put the world at a standstill with everyone waiting to see what the Omnimagians will do...

Wait... This just in, the Omnimagians have sent the UN a list of demands that must be met or else the world will be "submitted to the wrath of Netham45's Lobster Army". Such demands include >9001 crates of peanuts, sacrificial blue lobsters, and a wide assortment of cherry flavored items. With such computing power stored in the hands of such people, we can only hope these demands are met.

In the wake of these events, we can only ask, Why? Why do these people make these demands, what caused them to gather, and what are their future plans...

I find Blender hard to use at most points. It is hard to get used to, but I guess people who are familiar with it could like it...

There is an option to get 3DS shortcuts or maya directly in blender

I use blender for creating the 3D models of my java game. Blender is hard to get used to, but once you get used to it, you can make it do almost everything.

But what you did is really great for a first time!

BTW: rendering in blender is really slow, so for just seeing if it looks good, you can use the previev renderer (shift+p) which is faster than a normal render.
My projects
 - The Lost Survivors (Unreal Engine) ACTIVE [GameCommandoSquad main project]
 - Oxo, with single-calc multiplayer and AI (axe) RELEASED (screenshot) (topic)
 - An android version of oxo (java)  ACTIVE
 - A 3D collision detection library (axe) RELEASED! (topic)(screenshot)(more recent screenshot)(screenshot of it being used in a tilemapper)
Spoiler For inactive:
- A first person shooter with a polygon-based 3d engine. (z80, will probably be recoded in axe using GLib) ON HOLD (screenshot)
 - A java MORPG. (pc) DEEP COMA(read more)(screenshot)
 - a minecraft game in axe DEAD (source code available)
 - a 3D racing game (axe) ON HOLD (outdated screenshot of asm version)

No more Shift+P in Blender 2.5x =)

Is it changed? I know it's shift+p in 2.49.

I used Blender for my Direct3D project for school, and yeah it's kinda hard to get used to.

The balloons are great though :D

Necropost!
A small blender cycles animation I made to practice for something hopefully better

My first cloth animation and my first use of textured mesh in blender. It was actually a lot easier than it looks.

Yeah, so those are my only important renders, and both relate to omnimaga

I really need to learn this sometime. I haven't tried using it since 2.4 and I was too confused with that.
I currently don't do much, but I am a developer for a game you should totally try out called AssaultCube Reloaded download here https://assaultcuber.codeplex.com/
