Well, I herd about it on the nightly news. If you don't know already, Carrier IQ is a piece of software deeply embedded into certain mobile devices.

Here's my thoughts on it to be exact: I think it is a *complete* violation of federal laws. Not the fact that it "doesnt record data" (I'll talk about this in a moment), it also forces upon users to take part of it. This is for example, similar to.. say windows 7 without you choosing to send in crash reports. You must send crash reports no matter what. The only way to remove it is by rooting and installing a custom rom as from what I can tell. The other reason I believe is that despite their claims that it "doesn't record the information", how can it not? Unless it can self-diagnose itself (i.e. 0% human interaction), someone somewhere must take that data in order to diagnose it, and if its not done in real-time, then it has to be stored somewhere or else they can't do anything about it unless they actually have the information that was processed during the event.
