Change in Activity
« on: October 05, 2011, 01:02:55 pm »
Hey guys, so I've usually been on anywhere from 12pm-2am MST but starting this coming up Monday my normal schedule will drastically change. The reason is that I've just recently gotten a job working night shift at a Hardware/Home improvements/Gardening store. So I have no idea exactly when I'll be up anymore as I'll be adjusting to working 10pm to 6am MST.
Just so you guys know why my online time is going to be very different then normal.

Yay Money!
( Btw, I'll probably be saving some of my money specifically for paying Omni's bills ( although not all of it ) )

AH ok hopefully you can still come online sometimes. Congrats on the job though, I'm glad you managed to get one finally. Just please do not keep this work schedule if you ever return to school, though. I heard some people did that and that's an extremely bad idea because they usually ended up failing most of their classes. X.x

On a side note is it mainly during weekends?

Yeah I'll be able to get on after work, and maybe before.
Yeah I plan to not work during school since I can't be up all day long.
I'm working full time so Mon-Fri, or 40 Hours a week. I get every weekend off, so I'll be on more then.

Well good to hear you have your weekends off. It's rare we can get a week time schedule in a store. Also most stores over here got rid of their night shift because during night they are forced, by law, to pay an extra $1 bonus per hour, and they tried to save cash by moving night schedules during daytime.

Yeah, we get payed more on night shift as well, it's great, I start off getting payed more then if I started off in the day :D
Why I'm getting full time night shift is because they barely have enough people working night shift and one is about to retire so they need more people.

Ah I see, that's good then. Over here they offered me a night shift back when they still offered one but in my city there was no city bus to come back home during night/early morning and I lived farther, so I had to decline the offer. My bro also used to work at night where he works now but then they closed the night shift and he got transfered to a daytime shift starting around 6-7 AM

Yeah, I'm not quite sure how my schedule will turn out ( sleep/awake schedule ), so I have no idea how much I will be on. I do plan on still checking the forums every day, and hopefully idling for a little bit on irc.
It's going to probably be sleep, spend some free time on forums/gaming/tv/etc possibly hang out with friends for a little bit, go to work, get home, start over. I have no idea when I'm going to get up so I don't know how much time I will have before work each day. ( I have a feeling that was a little jumbled ).
I'm sure it will all work out though. I also have weekends free so I will for sure have time to be on then.

I can't wait to have money :P

Who goes to a hardware store between 10 and 6? Or are you a stocker?

Oh I thought you already started. That might explain why you were still online at night then.

Btw some stuff people I know like to do is splitting their sleep schedule in half so they can still enjoy afternoons or evenings. basically they go to bed an hour or two after coming back from work, 4 hours later they wake up, eat, enjoy afternoon, then go to bed again, then wake up and eventually go to work, instead of sleeping during the entire morning+afternoon or afternoon+evening.

Yeah I just started today, the job is great but my feet are killing me X.x I'll get use to it though.

I'm probably just going to sleep it all, it's better for your body to sleep one large amount then several small ones. Your body can stay in a lower level of sleep longer so it has longer to recuperate.

Anyways, I'll see you all later today, I'm heading to bed :P

Oh right yeah if you're not used to standing up or walking for so long (standing up without moving much is even worse) it takes a bit to get used to it, although eventually you are fine. And I see. Hopefully you can still enjoy some parts of the day and such.

Also advice, although I do not know if you are nor will be like that, I have doubts you will knowing you, but given that I do not know how your parents educated you when it comes to rewards and such things and given what I see in real life most of the time, I prefer to get this out to make sure you don't fall into some traps with work:

I notice that a lot of the late Generation Y or Z era people tend to be very lazy when it comes to jobs. Generation Y spans from 1980 to 1986 and late generation Y from 1987 to 1991 and Z starts with people born after 1991. It's because since the 2000s or so, both parents usually have to work and have less time to take care of their kids, so as compromise for the lack of being with them enough, they give them everything they want. Besides that it seems even other parents have the tendency to let their kid do what they want more and think that in life they can get everything for nothing. Over here in Quebec, these kids are called "enfants-roi", which literally translates to "King-kids" or "king-alike kids", but in English place they refer to them as "Trophy kids". This was also present in early generation Y from 1980-86 born people, but it was much less bad. Late generation Z and whatever will come afterward will be even worse: http://livinginasordidworld.blogspot.com/2007/04/what-went-wrong-with-generation-y.html

As a result, when it's time to find a job, these younger people will think that at work they can get paid or get everything without a single effort and do everything they want without any consequence. Basically over here, since January 2010, when we had to fire someone for calling in sick, we tried about 7 new employees one after another. ABSOLUTELY ALL OF THEM kept calling in sick every few day of work for stupid reasons. Just a little headache or cough would make them call in sick, but often we discovered that they were actually fine and simply either were drunk the night before or they decided to take their work day off to hang out with friends. Result: It's me or my other work teamates who were forced to work extra hours. When these employees do not call in sick, they are just too slow to do the job and often found hiding somewhere, texting on their phone during work hours. Also more and more young people begs for special favors such as having their entire weekends off, even though older people still got to work through most of them (like me). When bosses refuse, they simply call in sick (pretending to be sick) as they wish. I also notice more and more of them arriving late all the time.

The problem that arises next, however, is that it's almost impossible to find any decent employee anymore because parents no longer educates their kid properly about how it works at a job. As a result, bosses often are stuck with these lazy employees who are unwilling to do any effort but still want to get paid, so they can't fire them, since it's so hard to hire anyone nowadays (thanks to the aging population).

I am saying this because since 2005 we only got 5 new decent employees in my department, out of 28 (or maybe it was 29). All the other ones would have to get fired after a month realizing they simply do not want to work, and I like a lot of you on the forums and I do not want you and others to also gain a very bad reputation as worker in real life like many young people here are doing then see you end up jobless for the rest of your life. Now it got so bad that some young people take advantage of the fact bosses cannot find anymore decent employees so they cannot fire bad ones, so they can slack off even more without as much fear of consequences. But when you do that you still end up with a bad reputation anyway and bad references on your resume.

So to sum things up, when you are on your work hours, lay off the cellphone (or if you work on a computer, Runescape).

On the other hand Eeems, if you are not part of this growing majority, dont let others abuse of yourself either. If you work with others, you should not be forced nor force yourself to do their job at their place. If they're slacking off it shouldn't be your problem and if the boss keeps forcing you to do their job, yet does nothing to solve the issue, then this is not a good place to work at.
