I am kinda curious to how many LANGUAGES you all get to learn. We are obligated to the last three years from primary school up until the first 3 years of high school to learn:

French and german and english and dutch. Greek and latin are most of the time optional but not obligated nor included in the standard 'packagge'.

I've always kinda hated it how most of the other countries in europe just get away with their native language and english. But honestly, i would not know if that is still the case. I might very well be mistaken.

The thing is, when i go to germany i have to speak german. Most germans do not speak dutch at all. Maybe somewhere near the borders but....thats about it i guess. Maybe dutch just sounds to corny...

I think for some countries it's because many European countries are much smaller than the American ones, so you have a much greater chance to meet people talking in another language than English or French. In Canada, the two official languages are English and French. In Quebec the main language is French and we are forced to start learning English in grade 4 of elementary school. In Canada I believe they only learn English, but I am not sure, maybe they start learning French later. In USA many people only know English, but in the south there are plenty of Spanish/English people as well.

I think it's good to know many languages.

The US system does vary a little bit from region to region. For my schooling it is:
Preschool: about 3 years (optional)
Kindergarten: age 5, one year
Elementary school: grades 1 -6
Middle school: grades 7-8
High school: grades 9-12, graduate age 18
College/university: 4 years optional

We also have levels used in high school for our classes.
honors is a more advanced version of that course
AP is an extremely advanced version of that course
IB is similar to AP

For me, I started going to a private Catholic school when I entered high school. The experience is quite different from public school, but you get a great education. These will be my courses for next year:

US history AP with Model UN
Physics 1 IB
Pre-calculus Honors
French 3 Honors
English 3
Religion 3
AP computer science

List of stuff I need to do before September:
1. Finish the Emulator of the Casio Prizm (in active development)
2. Finish the the SH3 asm IDE/assembler/linker program (in active development)
3. Create a partial Java virtual machine  for the Prizm (not started)
4. Create Axe for the Prizm with an Axe legacy mode (in planning phase)
5. Develop a large set of C and asm libraries for the Prizm (some progress)
6. Create an emulator of the 83+ for the Prizm (not started)
7. Create a well polished game that showcases the ability of the Casio Prizm (not started)

In USA and Belgium I think it's also possible to take multiple school years into one so you finish earlier, right? You end up busy as hell, though. X.x

My school has me learning latin and wants me to take spanish in high school. They won't let latin count for a foreign language since it is dead...

Yeah here it was optional. I wonder if it even exists anymore. Also we cannot retake the same year twice anymore. beforehand, if you failed, you had to restart the entire year from scratch in elem/hi school, but then they changed this. I think you have to re-take the classes you failed during the next year. beforehand, this only happened past the 2nd year of hi school.

Summer school must suck when you want to save money for college, though. Many people use Summer to work full time. X.x

I see. When do they occur, though? Because don't you already have classes during morning during school time?

I thought it would also be a good idea to post your school hours. For me on a regular day school starts at 7:40 and goes to 2:27. We have 6 classes each 57 minutes. I don't get home till 5:00 because of sports though.

List of stuff I need to do before September:
1. Finish the Emulator of the Casio Prizm (in active development)

When I went to elementary school, it was from 8:30 AM to 3:15 PM. 4 classes, but I forgot how long they were. I think it was 60 minutes, 15 min break, 60 mins, dinner break from 11:15 AM to 12:45 ish PM (most students went back home to eat, but you had to pay extra fees for the bus), then another 60 mins class, 15 mins break and a final 60 mins class. We could do french for an entire day long sometimes and it was boring, especially past participles. X.x

In hi school for the first 2 years it was from 9 AM to 4 PM. Each class lasted 75 mins with 15 minute breaks between them and the dinner break filling the middle. For the last 3 years it was from 9:05 AM to 4:10 PM, IIRC

I should post my final year schedule at some point. I still have it, I think.

As for college it was from 8 AM to 6 PM. Each class lasted 50 minutes with 10 minute breaks between them. Normally you had at least an hour of dinner every day, but you could have between 1 and 9 hour of classes per day. Sometimes you had 2 hours during morning then 2 more during late Afternoon. It sucked because you couldn,t get a decent job. X.x
