Disney Wars Episode I: The End of Star Wars as we Know it?
« on: October 30, 2012, 09:20:04 pm »
So as most of you must have heard already, Disney apparently bought or plans to buy Lucasfilm. While Disney did some nice stuff in the past, it's not like they have a very good reputation online because people feel their newer stuff is not as great as their older stuff. I personally wasn't much into newer Disney stuff so I can't judge, but in the past I saw companies buying franchises or other companies only to run them into the ground afterward. Also isn't Disney more oriented towards family-oriented movies? I hope that won't make new Star Wars cheesier or featuring easily guessable storyline events, or worse: literally turn the franchise into a kid show and also go on a copyright rampage on Youtube like they apparently like to do...

I'm expecting whatever they make in the Star Wars universe to be complete garbage.

I'm not a fan of The Clone Wars and didn't watched it much, but I expect future Star Wars projects to be probably similar.

I'm gonna give them the benefit of the doubt until the next movie, but I really have concerns about them totally destroying it. Heck, what if they even dare changing the long-classic intro theme to something else? It would be a total outrage among fans. Plus if they actually have the balls to change the theme, I have fears about how the new one would be. Maybe something like this:

I seriously don't want Star Wars to turn into a cheesy Power Rangers-like super hero movie where the main guy never get close to lose.

Well, don’t be too afraid.
I haven’t heard anything about it, but they might just be buying the funding and profit rights to it, or they might be buying the planning and such rights.
Disney also bought Marvel, or maybe just marvel movies, but they don’t create the movies, or put the castle before it, and Avenger was pretty hipster anyway
They bought Pixar, and plan and create family friendly movies, and put their logo before it.
So it might be like Marvel, and stay the same, with Disney doing the accounting

Would Gorge Lucas allow that? I mean, he fought to be independent with star wars.

Lucas is on as creative consultant, but I'm not expecting much from him...

If Disney manages to get a decent director on this, there might be hope (John Lasseter would be great)...Or not...

Also it just occured to me that if they continue with each movie theme/title alternating between sith/jedi (1.phantom menace 2. attack of the clones 3. revenge of the sith 4. a new hope 5. empire strikes back 6. return of the jedi), then this trilogy (yes, they are thinking about 8,9) will end on a "sith movie"...So either they're going to break the pattern (lame) or end the trilogy on a sith "victory" (also lame, and then what, 10, 11, 12?)

One thing I really hope, though, is that under Disney they are not as demanding for theater standards. Due to either limitations or requesting a too high percentage of theater revenues, my local theater (and most likely Juju's) refused to play Star Wars Episode III and they went very close from not playing Episode II (we finally got it later), and it sucked because there is no theater in Quebec City that is easily reachable via public transit (IMAX doesn't count either because it's about 1.5 hours of bus and it's sold out everytime).

Maybe you can pre-oder tickets for your IMAX?

I just read up on it. They're making another trilogy.
I looked on Wikipedia, and apparently they're throwing in fictional fictional starwars history, instead of factual fictional starwars history.
I'm most likely not going to watch it, just like how I've waited six years for the hobbit but probably won't watch it because its a Trilogy with fictional female characters

Yeah we can, although I tend to prefer buying them not too long in advance in case I finally prefer to go to the theater another day instead (especially if I am sick)

Kinda interesting to read about what Lucas thought about this. In the 70s he was like, lol 12 movies, then, lol a 3rd trilogy not gonna happen, he was pretty categoric until 2012, and then today he unexpectedly changes ideas.
