DJ Omnimaga is very pissed

In case in the next weeks you wonder where I am I may not be very active or not at all active due to recent events. ATM I don't feel like I am able to contribute anymore, because anything I try to do ends up not working or ends up being useless. You have no idea how pissed I am at the moment. Nobody have done something bad, I am pissed because everything I touch doesn't work, anything I plan doesn't work, anything I do doesn't work, anything I spend weeks working on doesn't work, i have no luck with anything. I lost interest in programming, so I tried something less heavy on my shoulders (updating one of my odl PC game), and guess what? No one can run it except me. I cannot solve the bug since I am unable to create it so the f***ing game is gone in the trash bin now, forever. Idk what will happen next with me, but i expect worse so idk what I will do and how I will continue

Don't worry. Everyone goes through problems like this. It's called debugging. ;)wink.gif

You won't believe how much bad luck I've had with some of my projects, to the point where I've had to trash all my resources and start again from scratch. That's just the tedious nature of creativity for you.

Heh. I can relate to that. Maybe it's I am kind of a perfectionist, but when something I had a hand in doesn't turn out exactly the way I want it to, I first lose interest, force myself to do it anyway, then finally get angry enough to stop alltogether. At least for a while, until my ehrgeiz (woo, another german word that has found its way into the english language) kicks back in.

Actually I am surprised that you found the strength to keep going for so long. Kudos for that. If you need a break, then by all means, take one, you of all people here earned it. ;)wink.gif

Btw: I don't think deleting the source was a good idea. I often find myself returning to old abandoned projects, and then I get annoyed when I realize I deleted it out of chargrin :(sad.gif

As I told you, I am here for ya if you need someone to talk to, or even just to work off your anger ^^

You may have to distribute a Game Maker DLL file with your game. I remember writing some Visual Basic programs where I had to do something similar.

Good luck!

Not to compare myself to the god of calculator rpg's, but I haven't even made a single game! I made the Bob videos, sure, but they are not all that impressive to those who know what it took to make them, they don't even run off an engine. You on the other hand have made games that are completely awesome! I mostly don't get the games with big file sizes, but your games were totally worth it! I only wish I was even close to your level of awesomeness! If you're having an off month or two or whatever so be it, I'm in the middle of my 2nd off YEAR! But whatever, we all deal with stuff differently...

P.S. the word "awesomeness" should in reality be replaced by the term "awesome-osity", mostly just because I have freedom of speech and I think the latter sounds cooler....

Here's my advice: Do some deep thinking. Philosophize, if that's a word. Figure out exactly what you need to figure out. It works.
Figure out where you are, where you're going, how you'll get there. And why you want to go there.
No matter what, remember that your life isn't worthless. You have plenty of fans. I still consider you the number one calculator game maker (programming good means nothing if you can't make it fun). You make great music (I'm listening to Escape From Life right now). You are a creator. You have the power to make people happy and have fun.
Everyone goes through rough times once in a while. You probably go through them more often because you're a "creator" and that's a tough job, especially when things you create have to not only be good enough for other people, but for you too. Perfectionism doesn't help.

I hope that made sense, and made you see things in a different way. It's always important to look at things in different ways.
One of these days I'll get a sig I'm really proud of.

Here's the problem:

Forget aobut netham not being able to run the game, as he runs Vista. My biggest worry is that two people tried the game on XP, and the game crashed at the exact same place (when exiting the cavern after fighting the first enemy) for both people, and I am unable to recreate the error/crash/bug at all. Try to fix a bug that is nonexistent on your end.

Also if the game really have problems then I may be screwed. SInce the game was made using RPG Maker, this means there is no code, so try to debug a crash with no code.

I am pissed because it seems lately that there is always somethign trying to make me stop producing anything lately.

unfortunate, i hate stuff like that. i recently tried to give 15 people P64k so they could play ssb online, it worked for 3 people. all i can say is, dont give up. try something else, if you cant move foward, attack in a different direction. (sorta like chuck norris)

I use Vista too, so I probably wouldn't be able to help. But that's still no reason to give up. Sure, it's a reason to be PO'ed, but you shouldn't give up. If RPG Maker itself has a glitch, that's not your problem.
Move on if you need to. But don't stop creating/producing/whatever you want to call it.

I wonder if it's an OS specific problem. Why don't you send it to me and let me test it on Windows 2000?

Also, it could depend on which RPG Maker you're using. If you're using anything prior to XP, that could be your problem. None of them were officially released outside of Japan, so no doubt you're using an unofficial patched version. I think the patched versions require you to distribute a special DLL file with any games you produce.

I use windows XP SP2, like the two guy which the game crashed while exiting the Water Cave. However it worked pretty fine for me, so that's not an OS specific problem.

As for the dll I don't think it is that because the previous version of the game worked fine for almost everyone and no one got problem exiting the cavern. This only happens with the new version, meaning something bad happened with that part of the game. Maybe a file is missing, but which one? It is impossible to tell if I cannot recreate the bug

Check the specific event scripts in that area, and then cross-check the game's resources to see if a file is missing. (which is the most usual cause of a crash)
