Do you fear your own reflection?
« on: May 25, 2010, 03:49:17 am »
Stand in front of a mirror, and stare directly into the reflection of your eyes. Without ever looking away, do you eventually begin to fear your reflection? How long can you stare at your reflection before you must avert your eyes?

mhmm weird I did not really seem to fear my reflection after a while but again maybe I did not stare long enough. How long do you have to stare?

For most people, I think only staring at their reflection for a few minutes would either cause them to feel light-headed, or fearful. It's a weird phenomenon. I think it relates to how we don't subconsciously understand that we're only looking at a reflection of ourselves.

I personally didn't experience this. Ever. I tried staring at my reflection, but all that happened is that I got bored.
This phenomenon must vary from person to person, I guess.

I sometimes stare to my eyes in the mirror but never tried more than 1 minute. I stare because I love to see the colors of light (green, blue, grayish) eyes. My eyes are actually green with some patterns of brown and sometimes look blue for some odd reason.

I can look at my reflection and not be afraid...although it does look a little too intelligent for a reflection.....

I understand what you mean Zera. You almost can't associate the person in the mirror and your personality. It feels weird.

i do not since your reflection is just all the photons not absorbed by the mirror are shot and absorbed into your eyes.

Personally, I only find it scary when it does things that I don't.  Considering that it usually doesn't do that, then no, I fear not my reflection.  My shadow on the other hand...

(I was starting to get ideas as I read the first sentence o.o. It also reminded me that scary vid x.x
)

Oh about the shadow, at night after putting new larger stuff in my bedroom, sometimes it caused a huge shadow and once I did not look well and it looked like a person, and it scared the hell out of me x.x

For me, it's really weird because I've hit the age where my face is changing into it's adult shape, so sometimes it catches me off guard when I, say, get out of the shower and see a flash of what I might look like in 10 or 15 years. That's freaky. The other weird thing is when you try (and fail) to see what your eyes would look like to someone at whom you aren't looking directly at.
