Yay for lego! I used to play with them a lot, a long time ago.

Yeah, they are twice the size of lego blocks in each dimension. I remember having some but IDK where they are now :(

I have many boxes of Legos, and I'd use them, but they're in my abyss of a closet.

I also have a huge box of Linkin' Logs!! :D

I never got to play with them as I was too old when we discovered them, but I saw them often when I was kid.

There was even another spinoff of the duplo blocks for a while in the late '90s which had a similar name, but I don't think it was called Quatro here. The bricks were even bigger than Duplo, tho, so maybe it was the same thing.

EDIT: Actually they were called Lego Primo. Afterward they were renamed to Lego Baby but they've been discontinued, I think.

Just another way that the older you get, the less fun you can have.

Were there 4x2 duplo/quatro bricks, btw? Someone could almost try getting LOADS of those bricks for cheap somewhere and build some sort of giant structures with them.

And yeah Primo seemed similar in size to Quatro, but the top of the bricks were round.

Bricks were bigger for young children so they avoid swallowing them.

Wouldn't the bricks have to get systematically bigger so that they're harder to fit into the bigger mouths of older children :) ?

I think they're also bigger to accommodate underdeveloped motor skills :P

Maybe, but it's generally younger children that tend to put them into their mouth more. At a certain age they start knowing it's dangerous, in most cases.

who wouldn't remember duplo blocks?

I bet quatro blocks were for people who wanted to have HUGE lego builds, kids or otherwise, not for the swallowing appeal.

Does duplo blocks still exists though? It has been since 1999 since I messed with Legos, but I wonder if they were discontinued since then.

And yeah Quatro would definitively be nice to do some huge builds. I myself would try getting loads of them if I had the money and space. :P

Oh, yeah. Duplo blocks are a mainstay in nurseries, schools and dentists' offices around here. They're everywhere. We had a huge set, and I see them in wal-mart all the time. They come in those Cube-ish buckets.
