Is the movie only about the first book, or does it have parts of the second book in it?
I guess only people that have read both books AND seen the movie would know.

besides LOTR and Harry Potter in most case I found that movies based on books always sucks. Even LOTR/HP has lacking because they cut down on scenes (altough they are still good)
Uhh, I loved the LOTR movies (except for the super long ending of the third one, granted this is much shorter than in the book but there was like a whole battle with saruman in the shire that they skipped in the movie) and have all 3 special extended editions of it.
Harry Potter movies I considered loathsome. I watched the first two and they were so bad I never bothered watching the others. :X
@bfr: cheesy, that's a good word for that movie

Yeah the LOTR movies pwned! (never read the books)
I never got into the Harry Potter movies, (haven't seen one yet), but the books were pretty good.

I have read both books, but have not seen the movie. IMHO, Eragon and Eldest aren't that good. If you pay close attention, a lot of stuff was copied from LOTR and Star Wars Original Trilogy (think Brom as Ben Kenobi, the teacher guy in Eldest Yoda, Murtagh Darth Vader, Galbatorix Emperor Palpatine, etc).
I've seen the game that came out for Eragon and played the demo and it is the stupidest game I have ever seen...
I suggest you read Campbell's "A hero with a thousand faces" before you go any further with that.
on a side note, while the lord of the rings movies were excellent cinematography, the content compared to the books was absolutely horrid. they absolutely
trashed
the characters of Gandalf, Aragorn, Denethor, Theoden, Elrond, Faramir and Treebeard, took out important scenes, and made up a couple.

Hahaha, yeah I disagree with some of the things they did in lotr, but it is a book=>movie adaption after all. It was probably a good plan to leave out that whole thing with saruman in the shire for example. In a movie that would have seemed extremely anti-climatic. Personally, I think they did the characters rather well in the movie. The thing I disliked the most was the part where Aragorn fell down the cliff and "died" in the fight with wargs and uruk-hai in the second movie. I was like, wtf is this doing in here.
Well, that and the ridiculously long ending stuff.

To tell you guys the truth, I have only seen the first movie cause that was the only one I could put on hold from the library
. However, I have read all of the books and The Hobbit, too.
IMO, when it comes to books/movies, books/games, or movies/games, usually the one that came before the other is better. Also, some good movie directors have some strange ideas...

I agree. Almost all of the time, the thing that came first is best in terms of conversions. However you have to admit, some conversions are better than others.

Ok...
I did not like the way the movie was executed.
They left out a lot like the twins (ok, they always have to because of the limited time), jumbled events together (wtf? Arya gets to meet Brom?! why does Arya let Brom die instead of healing his wound?), and changed others (Brom dies of a wound he recieved when he tries to shield Eragon from a spear Durza hurles at him).
The storyline is more linear in the movie, Saphira does not gradually grow but suddenly "explodes" to full size and her voice is kind of childish (maybe the english sub is better in that aspect).
All in all... I think the director partly did not want to bother the watcher with details and partly wanted to show off his own creativity with changing the plot and storyline.
I can not really recommend viewing it to those who know the books already.

just so you guys know, lots of scenes in the movie were filmed in Hungary, and you can guess why it is so important to me...

Basically what i think happened to the movie was they tried to make a 5-6 hundred page book into a 1.5 hour movie when a 3-4 hundred page book (LOTR) made a much longer movie. Even that having been said, there were multiple plot changes that were unneccesary or shouldnt have been included/left out (eragon finding out about brom early on, solembum and his prophesy, the fact that arya already loves eragon, the big dwarf diamond, arya leaving for the elves before eragon, the killing of the ra'zac.... the list goes on and on [if you read the books you'll know what im talking about]) i wouldn't suggest seeing the movie if you read the book, it'll only make you angry, but if you already saw the movie, i'd suggest reading the book, it pwns the movie.
