Just so you know, today I visited #omnimaga for the last time.

The reason for my departure from the channel is that it is turning into a troll-fest since the last few days. We cannot have a serious discussion anymore without some people messing around with us and it is 10x worse when it comes to computer discussion, where it always turn into a Windows bashing discussion and in some cases, even someone I will not name indirectly insulting people who have trouble using Linux (such as those getting viruses). Tonight was the final straw. I was upset that we may lose ztrumpet because his parents think we're the cause of the virus on their computer (which is not true, else I would have got warned about it by many people), but some people did not give a shit and simply decided to start another linux vs windows debate. It was NOT the moment for such debate. Maybe you could have waited later? Or maybe just have let it go, since it was exactly the same thing discussed as earlier today? Then after banning, someone else continued messing with us (or maybe me?).

Well, seeing how things are going now there, even though people know we do not like argument starters, I am staying in the channel until midnight of my time, then I am done with it.

Goodbye to the members who just frequent IRC and not the forums. Unless I show up again in #omnimaga at one point?

And yeah I guess this means #ti too...

Guys, this is serious by the way.  Here's what ztrumpet said:

Nah, I would prefer to avoid chats for a while, at least public ones. Maybe I'll eventually change my mind and return to #omnimaga later, but I'll sometimes check logs to see if there are improvements (this includes excessive spam), but for now I think I need a break from IRC. That includes that chatbox on Cemetech site, too, not that I really used it much, though. Too many stuff happened lately (altough a lot of it is not online)

Unfortunately, though, due to stuff I will not talk about in public, if this leaving of #omnimaga is not permanent, a few people are alerady aware of the following: My first upcoming temporary leaves from #omnimaga will not be the last and will also include more sparse visits in #ti and the permanent leave of other places (as it started happening alerady with others) . Some people probably noticed I am also on Skype, AIM, MSN and Yahoo less and less often since the past few months.

I'll still frequent the forums and post regulary for a long while, though (hopefully).

I just noticed Hot Dog edit: are you sure Ztrumpet will even be allowed again today, though? (meaning, to browse Omni at all). My worry is if his parents are very narrow-minded about technology and despite their kids knowing a lot about it, will not get in their head that Internet Explorer just plain sucks when it comes to virus protection and that to get viruses they have to really not be careful, such as downloading torrents and browsing warez/porn sites or not being careful to scams.

Omnimaga is just another calculator site like United-TI and TIBD, we monitor files for their content and if I got infected elsewhere, I would quit uploading anything to Omnimaga altogether until I cleaned my PC.

That said, Omni or not, I seriously hope Ztrumpet did not lose his entire calc projects... I hope he back them up to his comp asap once repaired if he didn't.

I'M still worried, though, since the way his parents seemed to talk, I may not be able to talk to Ztrumpet again until he moves out of home and he's one close online friend

EDIT: btw I do know myself how narrow-minded people who are not into computers or dislike them can be about technology. Thanks partly to the medias, first, and secondly, companies like Micro$oft brainwashing schools, other companies, computer illiterate people and medias about how their products are better:

-My mother was so paranoid before about online shopping that despite my adult age and owning a credit card, she did not want me to buy anything on Ebay and Amazon, even if I kept telling her these sites were safe and legit if you be careful. I also kept explaining her the https thing with no luck. When was I allowed to buy online? As soon as I moved to an appartment.

-After getting a computer for the first time in 2004, it took almost one year until she lets me install Internet on it, even if I wanted to pay the entire internet bill myself at first. She said it was too dangerous.

-She did not like chats, despite how safe they can be if you be careful, so when she came next to my bedroom door, I usually minimized mIRC/Trillian. She wouldn't notice, then.

-Because I was online too often, she cancelled my internet in Jan 2007, leaving me with no internet in February 2007. I was not allowed to get internet again until I move out. She should just have taken the computer away altogether, since no internet did not stop me from playing Starcraft and emulator games all day long.

That is a sad post...

And I fear that now that you don't frequent other calc forums, #omnimaga and other IRC calc channels, it is going to encourage bad persons to bash Omnimaga forums until you quit on Omnimaga Forums, too.
Or if a serious misunderstood happens in Omnimaga forums to you will lead to the same situation.

Seriously, your systematic retreat in the TI community can only encourage them or make them feel with more reason. I am really worried.
You should stand in #omnimaga because:
1st: discussions do happen but you do not have to run after every nasty discussion
2nd: if it was done intentionally to make you leave the IRC, you should counter exactly by not quitting
3rd: #omnimaga is not #omnimaga without DJ Omnimaga

Remember that almost everyone in live will have to ignore or forget certain situations to better benefit. "You have to swallow the frog sometimes" that is what people say in my country. (translated to your convenience)

any way take your time a break is a good thing it does help one clear there head
