J.R.R. Tolkien stuff
« on: August 12, 2015, 10:04:00 am »
So I made this thread so I don't detail every other thread with Tolkien talk.

I'm learning Elvish, and have read his more popular books at least twice (LotR, Hobbit, Silmarillion, Unfinished tales)

I'm interested to see if anyone here is as addicted to Tolkien's works as me :P

I like Tolkien's works as well:

Proof

I was going to make the Elvish generator just output random elf words, but if you know elvish, maybe you can help me make it generate sentences that at least make a little sense?

Have you read The Children Of Hurin? What about The Histories of Middle Earth? A long time ago I tried reading unfinished tales, but got bored :P

I haven't start learning Tengwar yet, but I might learn the Quenya mode after learning Quenya

Council of Elrond is a good site to learn Elvish.

EDIT: Does anyone here know Quenya? I read the appendix of the Silmarillion, and there was something about Elvish names. Fëanor's name was originally Fëanáro (Fëa-Spirit, Nár-Fire). I'm wondering if the -o means of, and it's not in the CoE dictionaries.

Yes I'm taking an Elvish name :P

Quoted from codewalrus:
I have no idea how he came up with that tho O.o

From The Silmarillion/ Children of Hurin ;-)

(And warped logic)

Oh, and Middle-Earth was supposed to be around 3000 BC or something like that, I forgot the numbers but I know some of them in terms of ages (LOTR was the third age, Numenor the second, etc)

All big lizards, oh well.

Haven't figured out how to quote while editing on tapatalk
3000? Nah.. 10000BC seems more like it. You are talking about the thing where the Tolkien universe is the real universe right? If we say that the fall of numeron was the fall of Atlantis, them we can say that is did not happen 3000bc because if Atlantis sank at that time there would be more traces of it. At least that's my opinion.
Fun fact:
"Atalante" is elvish for "the downfallen". Coincidence? I think not!

Also, I've always bean more about creating my own world then exploring someone else's. That's why I never bothered to learn elvish.

I know the Elvish part, Quenya right? I don't think it's Sindarin.

I got that info from a Tolkien wiki somwhere :P

But Númenor was the second age, 3000 years before the events of LotR.

But I agree that the SA would be approx 10000BCE

Also: https://xkcd.com/785/

He appears to like Tolkien :P

I've read the Hobbit, Fellowship of the Ring, Two Towers, Return of the King, Silmarilllion and Children of Hurin. I gave up on the movies after the second installment to the Hobbit (Peter Jackson- you let me down)
