it's the latter. i usually delete a spam account or two that's caught by the filter trying to sign up every time i log on.
anywhere that doesn't filter ends up being flooded, no matter how obscure it may be.

You want more? ???

Kidding aside, I hope the spam protection isn't blocking real users from registering, though. I know some have to fill a CAPTCHA to access the site.

lose the game easily in 42 simple steps

JK. Yeah, that's kinda weird. A year ago we had to slain like 3-4 spambots a day and now there's none of them.

That is nothing compared to Christmas 2005 on OCRemix forums, though.  (about 5000 bot posts in 2 days)

speaking of spam floods, old forums that are inhabited by nothing else can be pretty funny sometimes. here one that was particularly great:

In a few years we might actually need new anti spam measures :P

And I think bots detects dead or inactive forums, because I noticed the less active a forum is, the more bots it gets. Probably taking advantage of the fact that moderators are gone, so nobody will delete them.

We need that system. I wonder if someone will make a mod to the post rating system to enable something like that

On my website i have for agains spam-bots some input fields like with the name email and in the style it is display:none;, so if you enter there something the server will block you out and since then i didn't had a spam-post anymore (the spam-bots got through googles recaptcha....)

My anti-spam system generates a random question regarding the position of keys on a TI-83 plus ("Key between [6] and [(-)]" for example) along with a link to an image of the calculator.

It's worked well so far ;D

The user still has to enter stuff so that the server knows it's not a spam-bot. :P
i'd be curious how well hidden input-fields alone would work, as mine are combined with a captcha
