My new internet speed
«
on:
September 14, 2012, 10:52:54 am »
I just installed my new modem etc. with my new ISP ("Numericable") for the appartment, and here is the speed test
I'm happy x)
It looks France is well served for the price (25€/month), which also includes unlimited phone and 20 TV channels.
What do you have ?

We went last month to a new provider we went from 9/0.8 to this:
But speedtest.net only gives you the speed to that server you test and does not really gives you your internet speed.
It must be fast at both sides of the line to get a good result.

Please kill me >.> I mean, what? They only advertise 5 Mb/s and I got nearly 6? o.o
We'll switch to 50 Mb/s as soon as my mom will bother paying the phone bill, they recently installed fiber in my area so we get 10x the speed for nearly the same price. Well, for a long time, 5-7 Mb/s was the only affordable plan in my area so we always sticked with that speed at home since we got high speed internet at the beginning of the 2000s.

Is it normal to have an upload speed over five times the download speed?

I moved to a student house (16 rooms) last saturday, this is what I get here, the others are asleep.
Not sure how much it is at "home" (at my parents'), but I think it was about the same.

Darn Adriweb that's pretty fast for the price. Over here for 30 Mb/s download and 2 Mb/s upload I pay around $65 or something per month, and my bandwidth is capped at 120 GB.
In October our upload speed is supposed to increase to 3 Mb/s and bandwidth to 130 GB, though (price is supposed to remain the same).
Also my ping got much better than a few years ago, when it usually ranged between 800 and 8000 ms
Also i remember when I just had high speed (7 Mb/s with 30 GB bandwidth), once they were doing maintenance and about to shut down the entire neightboorhood connection for a day to upgrade it, and before it, for several hours my download speed went around 130 Mb/s, which let me download a 360 MB torrent file in 22 seconds. The speed could have been higher, though, since your speed looks often slower if you're downloading from a slow torrent or server, but the torrent had 3600 seeders so maybe that was the actual speed. That was most likely a bug in their speed throttling systems or they accidentally removed my limit for a short span of time.
