Neuro-Linguistic-Programming
« on: December 12, 2010, 02:33:56 pm »
OK, since I got alot of positive reactions on my brief (yes that was still brief) overview about NLP I decided it deserved a seperate topic. Plus, it was taking over in Sir's topic. So I have discussed quite a few things but I don't think I really did it properly, I just wrote whatever came to my mind so it was a bit chaotic. My sources are a book called "Persuasion" by...ehr I forgot, "Unlimited Power"  by Anthony Robbins and just alot of blogs and webpages that discuss several NLP techniques. To answer some questions, ok NLP might not be without its errors because not all human behaviour is predicatable. However ALOT of human behaviour is. NLP is based on decades of psychological research by scientific experts. These techniques Are Proven time and time again. A other misconception is that NLP is about maipulating people, nothing is further from the truth. It is about placing yourself in someone else's shoes, it is about changing your emotional state at an instant so that you can be at your best anytime, anywhere. It only requires commitment. I can hand you the keys but it's you that has to pass the door.

So let me invite you to join me. I'll be building in a very slow rate from bottom to top. I will give you some assignments, some homework if you will. Because like I said, you can only harvest with commitment. The seeds are only mental.

So my first assignment is. Be dirt-honest with yourself right now and try to look at your life so far. What were you greatest accomplishments? When did you feel let down or depressed? Just take your life and skim through the highlights and the 'low' lights. Then answer this question: Are you happy? Do you feel you are getting all the juice out of life?

I can not make any promises as to what results you will get but I can tell you what I will learn you if you stick with me.

Part I: You
  • Changing your beliefs to your benefit. If you think you are of no use to others then I'll provide techniques to replace those negative and useless beliefs with resourceful ones.
  • Ready? Aim. Fire. Setting goals, and actually achieve them!
  • World model. Take a sincere look at your own perception of the world, you might even want to change it!
  • States. Use the power of states to control your emotions completely this will make you far more powerful then you were when you felt it was outside of your control. Which it never is.

Part II: They
  • Building rapport. Getting trust from others, building a gentle and subtle connection. Very beneficial if you want to build a relationship of any kind
  • Setting anchors.
  • A: Personal anchors, with personal anchors a simple touch can change your mood from depressed to elated.
  • B: Internal anchors, let the stimuli that caused you to get depressed now trigger you to be happy.
  • C: Perception anchors, how to make others believe you have certain qualities by anchoring yourself to those qualities.
  • Cues.
  • A: Eye cues, is  someone making something up or not?
  • B: Body language cues, is one feeling nervous or confident?
  • C: Verbal cues, does one agree or not? + the Awesome Power of Metaphors!

So that is what I will give you, that is all I currently have but I am sure that by the time I finish this I will have learned alot more myself already. I'll be releasing/typing my first lesson here as soon as possible.

~There is nothing but Metaphors

All the best,

Part I - Chapter 1 - Beliefs

"There is danger in both belief and unbelief"
~Phaedrus

Beliefs are exactly what you thought them to be. Things you hold for true albeit in a subjective way. Not everyone agrees with you that superman is real but if you are completely certain about it and you feel and know its true in your guts, then it's a belief. Belief is a personal truth and therefore very powerful. Because, what shapes you more then your own perceptions of the world? What defines you more then your model of the world? It all really knocks down to beliefs. Whatever it is you hold true you must be aware, you must realize it defines you up to the bone. Let's take that superman example again, if you were to belief in superman then probably you'd have half your room filled with posters and stickers and lord know what else...

Your simple belief in superman caused you to make superman a common appearance in your life. I do not care what you beliefs are, I care how they shape you unto what you are.

You see most people tend to have a lot of negative beliefs, moreover these negative beliefs are often about themselves. Beliefs like, I can't conquer my fear of heights, I can't interact socially, I will never get a (girl)friend, I will never succeed at X. All too often these negative self-beliefs fill our minds. Now I won't tell you to stop them, that is a pretty hard thing to do. If I could get rid of my fear of heights that easily then why do I still have fear of heights?

You can however change your beliefs, and you can do it now. There is nothing stopping you from doing that. Well maybe it is your belief that you can not change beliefs instantaneously that is stopping you. But then again remember those are just things, ideas, creations of your own mind and who has ultimate power of your mind? You. If you ever got depressed or felt angry did you ever notice how fast you could go from mad to sad? It takes literally just a second with most people and hardly 10 seconds with the really slow ones, but those are exceptions.

Think of it. You can and have been changing your emotional state superfast and you have been doing it nearly all the **** time. So why on earth would you not be able to change from mad to elated or from sad to joyful? Why not go from negative to positive, from un-resourceful to resourceful. I'll be talking about states sometime else but my point is that change in physiology barely takes a second.

I won't be telling you to belief in god if you are an atheist nor will I tell you to not belief in god if you are a theist. The whole point of beliefs is making you unique, but who wants to be unique because they are depressed and feel miserable all the time? No one.

Now I'd like you to think about this belief I'll be offering you to take in to your system. Preferably exchange it for some belief that you know isn 't of any use to you (anymore). Here it is: There is no such thing as failure or succeeding, there is only result and that result serves you best.

You might say, alright I got that, I am willing to believe that but how about me breaking my legs and being left immobile for the rest of my life? How then can I possibly belief that it serves me? I'll be honest with you, it's hard but if you integrated this belief into yourself before such a thing happened to you, you will be relieved by it. You will find a way it serves you. Maybe it just gives you that snap to throw your old life overboard and start afresh. Maybe it made you see that accidents can strike anywhere anytime (If you are paying attention then you'll probably see that this is a personal belief of mine, albeit not a very useful one...)

Now let's pretend such a terrible thing never happened to you. This way it is of course easier to see the benefits of the belief that there is only result. Let me ask you a question, what does a result provide you with? With data, data you can use to your benefit! This is why there is no failure, only data. Only pieces of information or feedback that provide you with useful lessons.

Results should feed onto your goals. Your objectives in live. Now please take your time to think of at least two things you want to achieve in life. Now I want you to be as specific as possible. You should not just say "I want to be rich" or "I want to be famous". I want you to specify what kind of rich you want to be. Do you want to be rich in a spiritual sense or in the sense of money. How rich? Give it a quantity. What kind of fame do you want to posses? Do you want to be recognized locally or do you want to be a worldwide popstar? Whatever it is I need you to be very specific.

> What?
> How Much?
> What kind of..?
> etc

Please write it down for yourself as specific as possible. Now take some tape and hang it up the walls in your bedroom or somewhere you'll be sure to see it every day. Let me go back to the results. Results are feeding your goals. From now on everytime you say "I failed at X" or "I succeeded at X" I want you to in your mind determine wether that 'failing' or 'succeeding' has brought you closer or further from your goals.

Now that you have simplified the result to be either something that moved you towards or away from your goal(s) you can determine to change what you did (because it moved you away from your goal) or to keep the behaviour (because it moved you towards your goal). It is that easy.

Now that you realize you can never fail, how much more thing would you dare to do? Probably quite a few things. Just for the next two weeks or so notice with every decision you make does this make me move towards or away from my goal?

Now of course stuff like, I decide to go to school today has little to do with your goal of founding your own ICT company in Los Angeles. You'll recognize a related decision when it occurs.

Ok long story short. Beliefs shape you, if they do then you can shape your beliefs to reshape yourself to your own benefit. A important belief to clutch onto is that there is no faillure or succes there is only outcome and that outcome serves you. Even if it is a so called 'failure' it still serves you because it provides you with the data of what you shouldn 't do the next you were to make a similar decision.

That is it for now. Next part will be about states and a bit about beliefs as well. For now, all the best!

If you can change, so can the world and thus can you.

Spoiler For IMPORTANT NEWS!:
Late last night, Quebec was invaded by a group calling themselves, "Omnimaga". Not much is known about these mysterious people except that they all carried calculators of some kind and they all seemed to converge on one house in particular. Experts estimate that the combined power of their fabled calculators is greater than all the worlds super computers put together. The group seems to be holding out in the home of a certain DJ_O, who the Omnimagians claim to be their founder. Such power has put the world at a standstill with everyone waiting to see what the Omnimagians will do...

Wait... This just in, the Omnimagians have sent the UN a list of demands that must be met or else the world will be "submitted to the wrath of Netham45's Lobster Army". Such demands include >9001 crates of peanuts, sacrificial blue lobsters, and a wide assortment of cherry flavored items. With such computing power stored in the hands of such people, we can only hope these demands are met.

In the wake of these events, we can only ask, Why? Why do these people make these demands, what caused them to gather, and what are their future plans...

Thank you for your kind words.

Anyway there is something short I want to share with you between the lines. I just had a bit of breakdown, just a couple of hours ago but I noted two things about it. I managed to switch from my depressed state in a very short amount of time. I said to myself: "What is causing me to feel like this?" and by answering that question I could comprehend my problem better. At that moment I realized that it was a mere result and I reminded myself that the result would serve me. Now it took me just a few minutes to figure exactly how that depression served me. It served me because people started to help me because I felt depressed + I now understood what caused the problem and thus I could tackle whatever it is/was that triggered it.

That is the sheer power of this belief. I sincerely have not felt that depressed in  a long long time but by reminding myself of this belief I managed to get into a resourceful, motivated and powerful state.

This is not made up to show you how it all works. It litterally just happened in the way I described above, I am purposely staying a bit vague because of my privacy but I thought I'd owe you this because there is such a simple lessons to be learned from this: No emotion is outside of your control, never.
