No offense annoyingorange, but there's already Omnimaga, Cemetech, TI-BASIC Dev, MaxCoderz, Revsoft, TI-calc, and United-TI. Is there really a need for yet another board when there aren't even enough members to fill the forums currently around?

EDIT: For the people talking about Copyright Omnimaga *has* copyright over the name "Omnimaga" and "Coders of Tomorrow," if we were to pursue it. It's just not worth pursuing, since as a site with no income, we really don't even qualify for a civil case.

I believe that simply because we created the name first we have some sort of legal standing?

And yeah, another calc-related forum, to add to the half-dozen-and-then-some forums is kind of unnecessary IMHO :P

If it gives us any standing it would be very weak. No official standing

There's an implied copyright on everything you make. Basically, if you ever put the word Copyright or the copyright symbol anywhere on your work, you have a claim to go to court :D

Whether or not you're eligible for monetary settlement depends on if you actually make an income on the work, and whether that copyright's registered (if you're in the United States).

EDIT: Ninja'd. Five times.

^ I don't think that's how it works.

Apparently it is, if you want to.

Yeah, it is weak, but as Sir said, it is bad taste.

Not really, but stealing the name would still be in bad taste.

Ic an't remember the law about this, but at lkeast in the US i think this is true. It also might be international I can't rememer. Who wants to forge the rcords lol.

It is in bad taste and questionable legality to name it omnimaga. now what is it for making a site inspired by omni but under a different name?

^ I don't think that's how it works.

You don't even need to write the word "copyright" down to have copyright. Basically, what the law says is that as soon as an idea or concept is recorded into a "tangible medium of expression,"* you have copyright for that intellectual property. In order to collect monetary fees, though, you need to prove that someone else violating your copyright has caused you to lose money in some way. Omnimaga doesn't bring anyone money, so it's kind of hard to lose something you don't get.

So yeah, we have copyright, but we can't do anything with it :P

EDIT: Ruler, it depends on how like Omnimaga the site is. If it's similar enough that visitors could easily get confused and associate it with omnimaga, then there's a violation. If it's only "inspired" and wouldn't cause many people to associate it with omnimaga, which is what I see, then we can't claim copyright violation. Either way, legal issues are overkill IMHO.

Its perfectly fine and perfectly legal.  He just has to understand that in order to compete with several highly matinenced and mature sites, he will need something that other sites don't have in order to attract users.

It's pretty much international except in the US, lol. We actually have some pretty weak copyright laws.

It is in bad taste and questionable legality to name it omnimaga. now what is it for making a site inspired by omni but under a different name?

IMHO, that's fine. But as Qwerty said, we don't want to split the community into more smaller and smaller fora. But the site's definitely fine.

EDIT: Ninja'd three times.
