First Amendment Pros and Cons
« on: September 12, 2010, 10:18:14 pm »
Soo I got assigned a debate paper for one of my classes and I need ideas/ opinions. On what to do. Im posting the scoring guide, just cause its easier to show you what i need to do. And no IM NOT ASKING ANYONE TO DO THIS FOR ME, before anyone asks i just want some ideas to go off of cause im literally stuck.

Support one's own ethical stance.

Read both the instructions for Performance Assessment Strategy #2: Debate Script: The First Amendment and the New York Times article "American Exception: Unlike Others, US Defends Freedom to Offend in Speech." http://www.nytimes.com/2008/06/12/us/12hate.html?_r=1&partner=rssnyt

Debate Script: The First Amendment

1.   Developed two specific examples for first "Pro" argument
2.   Developed two specific examples for second "Pro" argument.
3.   Developed two specific examples for first "Con" argument
4.   Developed two specific examples for second "Con" argument
5.   Developed rationale for your defending or not defending First Amendment "right" to hate speech.  This question will be answered individually.
6.   Cited all sources/Bibliography
7.   COMMUNICATE CLEARLY
8.   Submitted well edited work that is, overall, free of spelling, grammatical, and sentencing errors.
No full sentences-this is Power Point

Any Ideas and opinons would be very much appreciated. Im including some links i fond at the bottom of this post as-well.

Ok, so is this covering the whole First Amendment or just the Freedom of Speech part? Also, are you more just asking for what a couple pros and cons are or what? I'm just not entirely sure what you're asking for.

The whole First amendment.
And just a couple of pros and cons, and something to support them. Nothing more

Hmm...Well I am getting quite the blank :( I'm sorry. One pro is that it maps out the basic rights that American's have that we can do without the government interfering in some way, or at least not stopping.

I'll keep trying to think of stuff.
