I mostly play kirby on it because it's easy to pick up and play. My other games do not have a save-feature and you'd have to start from the beginning every time you start. I should get zelda or another game that can save.
in some cases, be careful because these games are very old and use a backup battery to retain saves when not in use. While batteries are supposed to last several decades, in some rare cases they die in 3-15 years. For example, my copy of Final Fantasy III no longer saves and my Terranigma repro cart and Secret of the Stars saves often vanishes if I don't play for a few days or turn the power ON/OFF too rapidly (such as when the game won't start and I have to mess around with the cartridge in the slot)

The battery can be changed but you have to be very careful with soldering or electrical tape, because you don't want to kill a $100+ game x.x

Also, if you get a wii you can download the NES games and it'll save the RAM on their virtual console :P

But nothing beats playing on the original hardware (both nostalgia-wise and gamepad-wise) :P

This still requires soldering or electrical tape (where do I even find these tools in my city anyway?) and very good hands for electronic manipulation. It's not like replacing a calc battery where you just remove some screws then replace the battery, you actually have to break something that holds the battery there without bending it too much, detach the original battery from its soldering, put in a new one, solder it back (or use electric tape) and stuff. Some people claim it's easy, but if you have never done any soldering, are scared of it or just don't have good hands to manipulate small electronics (I myself often broke 9V battery connectors while trying to remove a battery), is it worth the risk of permanently damaging a $60+ game?

I heard some people wanted to use regular tape, but apparently many people advised them against it because it's a bad idea. I also heard that some people just bend the things to hold the battery in place, but the connection isn't very solid and this leads to some random save losses when you are too rough with the cartridge.

That's how you get better at them :P

Also, it depends which mario game you are talking about. I think the first Super Mario Bros. is kind of difficult simply because of the gravity. It makes the gameplay feel a bit strange to me. SMB 2 and SMB are pretty easy IMO. :)

There may be two monitors there (three in the picture) but the computers using each monitor aren't very powerful. Only one isn't using onboard graphics ("Mars"). I need to upgrade its RAM...

Yeah SMB1 physics were just more realistic, while SMB2/3 were more lax to make things easier. However, newer SMB games are far more easier. In NSMB2 for the Nintendo 3DS, when I finished World 1, I had 75 lives O.O . It seems like they made newer Mario games easier in general so that kids can pick them up easier without tearing down walls like we did back in the days with our NES gamepads. :P

I really need to post my cave too as well, but it isn't that impressive since the calcs are hard to see (lack of storage here) and the most interesting stuff (the SNES, NES and Atari games, for instance) are mainly under the couch inside a container in the living room. (I actually kept the boxed games more visible, though, and the N64 games are outside because my storage container ran out of space. >.<

Now my bedroom pretty much has my computer with several calcs hidden behind the monitor (some elsewhere on the desktop), some Detroit Red Wings media guides, some books I'm not done reading (especially Tintin stuff), a bunch of movies that don't fit elsewhere, some music CDs, my nice yellow/beige SNES and a Nintendo 64 :P.

What I need is something like this O.O

Right now several of my older consoles are on the carpet because they don't fit anywhere else and I'm afraid to use them too much because of lack of ventilation >.<

Those are cool shelves. I like the paintjob and the lights in it. I might put lights in my shelves some day too.
