I mostly play kirby on it because it's easy to pick up and play. My other games do not have a save-feature and you'd have to start from the beginning every time you start. I should get zelda or another game that can save.

That's how you get better at them :P

Also, it depends which mario game you are talking about. I think the first Super Mario Bros. is kind of difficult simply because of the gravity. It makes the gameplay feel a bit strange to me. SMB 2 and SMB are pretty easy IMO. :)

Yeah SMB1 physics were just more realistic, while SMB2/3 were more lax to make things easier. However, newer SMB games are far more easier. In NSMB2 for the Nintendo 3DS, when I finished World 1, I had 75 lives O.O . It seems like they made newer Mario games easier in general so that kids can pick them up easier without tearing down walls like we did back in the days with our NES gamepads. :P

I really need to post my cave too as well, but it isn't that impressive since the calcs are hard to see (lack of storage here) and the most interesting stuff (the SNES, NES and Atari games, for instance) are mainly under the couch inside a container in the living room. (I actually kept the boxed games more visible, though, and the N64 games are outside because my storage container ran out of space. >.<

Now my bedroom pretty much has my computer with several calcs hidden behind the monitor (some elsewhere on the desktop), some Detroit Red Wings media guides, some books I'm not done reading (especially Tintin stuff), a bunch of movies that don't fit elsewhere, some music CDs, my nice yellow/beige SNES and a Nintendo 64 :P.

What I need is something like this O.O

Right now several of my older consoles are on the carpet because they don't fit anywhere else and I'm afraid to use them too much because of lack of ventilation >.<
That's a pretty neat shelf system. Also, totally agree about the newer Mario games. For me they've been a huge disappointment due to how easy they are. :/ I should get around to posting my cave, but it's way too messy atm. XD

Yeah it's super easy to grind for lives in newer mario games. These days there are so many 1ups in those games it's almost inpossible to not beat them eventually. If you do happen to run out: go to world 1.1 and grind for some more until your live count reaches comfort levels. And what is the point of having so many lives? When you get a gameover you are just sent back to your last save which is not a large punishment compared to older games. Modern gamers are more likely to give up when they see game over because they think it stands for "This game has ended." What it really means is:"Session since your last save over. Try again from where you was 1 minute ago?"

Hey Keoni, what's that machine below the tv, next to the c64+floppy? Is that one of those old educational/kit computers?

Which one? You mean the little z80 computer board or the Philips Videopac with the membrane keyboard?

The problem in NSMB2, though, is that to gain lots of lives, you don't even need to grind. You can just gain lots of coins effortlessly. I actually don't mind if to get lives, you need to solve some puzzles, access some harder to reach platforms, etc, like in NSMB1 and Wii, but now it got so ridiculous that they might as well do like Demon's Crest and remove the life system altogether. :P

The games are all great, though. I enjoy them a lot and yes there are challenging stages where I laugh at my fails then have to retry 12-15 times, I guess it's just that they now focus on the challenge of finding every star coins and to 100% the game and make the game easier for kids (since nowadays kids starts playing games at 3-5 instead of 8-9), or to let people have fun together laughing at their fails, rather than trying to get as far as possible. But yeah, if someone really wants a recent Mario game that is challenging to even beat at all, he should get Super Mario Galaxy 2, else he might have to stick to older games.

That said, for older people, it's not like SMB3 and World were that hard either, though. In SMB3 it's harder to get lives, but almost every stage are easy unless you are stoned or drunk and in SMW you just constantly find lives. I never actually had a Game Over in SMW1. The first SMB was unforgiving, though.

Also Super Mario 64 holds the distinction of making it possible to die outside stages (if you try) :P

The oscilloscope is my dad's old work scope, but now that he has a new digital one, I've kind of taken this one over.
It's actually against a wall in my basement, but now that I look at it, it does look like a hallway :/. The exit sign is there because the previous owners had a business in the house, and no one ever removed it. I'm not even sure if it works.

Edit: It definitely doesn't work. The lead-acid battery inside has actually split open  :o
