do I spy a blender? XDWhy yes you do! Blender is awesome. I make movies as a hobby and i use blender for my special effects
I love playing around with blender
Necro: do you know what .mus is?µ
I have blender for nifs (morrowind and oblivion)
Same here, I never actually played it (at least, not yet), I was always more into RPGs and also Starcraft
So yeah to finish on the SC topic, I played 3 times against Jsj795 and I fucking got owned :P
that makes me wonder... how fast would 95 boot on a recent PC...
In Québec, there was a KFC parody from RBO (Rock Et Belles Oreilles) where KFC is called CFC (Cloro-Fluoro-Carbure or something, that thing that was destroying ozone back in the '90s)Actually, the wallpaper represents Zedd (Zeddicus Zul Zorander), the Wizard from the Legend of the Seeker series. For those that don't know what that is, it's an adaptation of the Sword of Truth books by Terry Goodkind.
nice :D
And I wish that emulator to the bottom right emulated MTV Music Generator (Music 2000 in Europe/Oceania) sound properly :(
Mhmm, how long ago was 1.13 released? The last time I tried MTVMG in PSX is late 2008 or early 2009, I think. Basically most sounds were some high pitched acute synths. MTVMG has the exact same problem on the Playstation 3, too, from what I heard. IIRC it's just one hard game to emulate in terms of sound. I use ePSXe for it, with Eternal SPU sound plugin
By the way, what is the BlackBox thing Zera is trying?

I think it was later 2009. Not totally sure.
It's probably because pSX has trouble emulating XA audio accurately. Games that use different audio structures won't have these kinds of problems. I know in some games, the audio will just drop-out entirely.QuoteBy the way, what is the BlackBox thing Zera is trying?
It's a shell replacement. You can find it here (http://bb4win.sourceforge.net/bblean/).
I'm guessing for Vista/7?

wow 5 hours o.oThis is for the first 3D design. It turns around 15 hours finally :p
That's insane, I would have thought it would have taken like a week or more to do that.
Yes, the most difficult thing in Belnder, is to start. Finally Blender 2.5 is confusing for experimental users as well, because all the settings have been moved, but when you "understand" where they escaped, you're like at home :pQuoteI heard a lot of people say Blender can be confusing to use. I guess it depends of people, really. ANyway nice jobThe controls aren't obvious, but once you learn them, they are great.
Also you seem quite good at drawing by hand.I began at 7 or so :D
GAH! I hate when I get used to a software and they change everything. What I hate even more in a software is when they even remove features and won't tell you.

Yes, I am a Ubuntu user, and yes, I actually play so much Pokémon Pinball that I need a launcher for it on my desktop. It is one of the reasons why nothing ever gets done.
Did you know that Xubuntu's implementation of Xfce actually uses more RAM than Gnome (http://www.linux-mag.com/id/7520)? (scroll down to "Simple comparisons") Even though Xubuntu aimed to be more lightweight, it became something of an oxymoron, just because they included so much robust software with it.Huh. I had no idea.
If you want a more lightweight Ubuntu derivative, look into Lubuntu (http://lubuntu.net/). LXDE is not only more memory-efficient, but it also consumes less energy. Pretty ideal for green PCs.
Here's mine.could you give me a link to that theme? I would love to be able to use it :P
Linux is very good at pretending to be Windows.
Linux is very good at pretending to be Windows.Shoot, you should see <a href="http://www.ylmf.org/en/">Ylmf OS</a>.
Yeah, I've seen that before.I personally prefer XP look to Vista. I like 7 better, though. It's also more customizable than XP without having to install crap that messes up your computer or comes with spywares..
Why XP, I wonder? Vista and 7 look way better.
Nice, does it runs kinda fast on your computer? I heard some people had troubles running vista on their comp, but 7 ran better, due to being (apparently) less ressource-intensive than Vista.Runs smooth, boots in 40 seconds (including auto-login), about a minute to be ready to use...
Behold! My disturbingly Mac-like Linux desktop!Looks nice. I remember when I had Windows XP looking like Mac OS X. I always liked Mac OS X look, although I never bothered setting up the bloatware I had to make Windows look like that after formatting my old computer in 2007 and now I happen to like Windows 7 themes.
Hardware is an MSI Wind U135 Netbook, 1 GB RAM, 160 GB HD, 1.6 GHz Intel Atom.
Could you email me the 1st one? I really like it :)For future reference, SIr was talking about my first post with the different themes I had.

Out of curiosity, what you're are did for the red Start button?I have a modified uxtheme.dll to allow 3rd party themes and I'm running the Zune Theme with the color mod. If you want it I can probably find where I got it, although I've had it for quite a while. If not I can always just pull it from the themes folder and zip it.

I also updated my desktop (and made it even better ;D): http://img.removedfromgame.com/imgs/1288567532-APPLE FTW.png (http://img.removedfromgame.com/imgs/1288567532-APPLE FTW.png)
I don't mind having lots of icons, but not too many either. Every once in a while I clean mine so only the programs I use often and the files I need often remains. I just hate to have to click Start->Starcraft II to play SC when I can instantly click it from the desktop, and I hate the quick launch on Windows 7 so I disabled that.
Everyone has their own tastes, though.
I also get a lot of clutter from getting things for Brawl Plus.Another B+ player? Cool. Who's your main? (as for me, Jiggs all the way.)
As for the Start button, it's awesome and I'd appreciate a link when you get the time. All to the left? What do u mean? (you can drag them over) but at least it is possible to make it function like vista and xp (i had that configuration myself for a while)I mean all to the left unlike in your screenshot, where the uTorrent icon isn't even completly to the left.
What i don't like about combining them all is that you can't really jump straight to the window you want, you have to hover over it and then choose. so i chose the 'combine when taskbar is full' option
Another B+ player? Cool. Who's your main? (as for me, Jiggs all the way.)My main is Ike, and from time to time I'll play either Lucas, Jiggly(It's all about that sunhat), or Metaknight(I don't spam btw).

Yup, just makes it easier to find stuff on my desktop. All alphabetical too ;) My start menu is set to animate up and down when my cursor goes down there (that's what the little, barely noticeable, blue bar is).
/me hopes in Eeems screenshot, the sports site icons includes hockey ones but not Montreal Canadiens :Pno that's just a link to my school project :P

Nice, kinda like a Mac OS X dock?
i approve of your usage of the word "amine"
those icons are somewhat massive for my taste, though
That's like one of the best linux desktops ive ever seen! nice gloss and big taskbar with details!!!thanks I think, you are serious right?
Hehe when I work on stuff or download files to try, I never feel like sorting them all through folders and stuff so eventually my desktop gets filled with those files until I delete them all. X.x
Good to see you backed up often, though. :P
I tend to not use icons much. I do have like 20 programs pinned on my start menu + the like 10 on the bar itself.
In my case I use them since I can access stuff faster than having to go through the start menu and I don't want quicklaunch to get too cluttered.
Yeah true, I always forget shortcuts, tho D:, lol XDIn my case I use them since I can access stuff faster than having to go through the start menu and I don't want quicklaunch to get too cluttered.

Notice the Touhou games near the bottom. (I actually also have 7.5, I just haven't taken it off my flash drive yet).

And as a tip, if you want to run Linux from a flash drive, use the old MultibootISOs from PDL. Booting up is a couple dozen times faster if you use it instead of their standard installer for some reason.
They replaced it with YUMI, though, and now it's just as slow as the standard USB installer.
Got Ubuntu Netbook Remix, and the UI is awesome :Dthis was the post before my original one that I was talking about.

Ugh....Unity *Shudder*For netbooks it's great, after all a full desktop doesn't really work that well for it.
Nice for netbooks, I suppose. I still prefer GNOME, but hey, to each his/her own :P
It's a package: http://packages.ubuntu.com/maverick-updates/unityThanks :)
I'm not surprised. Desktop managers often take some configuring before they'll start working, and packages, unlike OS installs, want you to do it yourself.I've never had this issue getting a DE to work. KDE GNOME and LXDE have all worked pretty much out of the box for me. I only had to do a little work for LXDE to get it to show up in the KDM menu when I was playing around with it.
I heard Unity will be shipped as the default DE in the next Ubuntu desktop release.Ugh....Unity *Shudder*For netbooks it's great, after all a full desktop doesn't really work that well for it.

@juju: I lost because of one of your icons. but that wasn't near as bad as Netham posting in the wrong topic and then making me lose.Hehehe. Yeah my FAT partition of my SD card is named TheGame. :P And I lost, yet again.

This thread inspired me to improve mine.

Erm....what?Unity sucks.

Unity is a Gnome shell for the Gnome 3 desktop environment, just like Gnome Shell. Perhaps you mean Gnome Shell?
Unity is a shell interface for the GNOME desktop environment developed by Canonical Ltd for its Ubuntu operating system.

Gnome Shell is the desktop manager for Gnome 3.

and btw, i can see quite a lot of software i like on you desktop :)
How do I choose another interface? I used to use Ubuntu for 3 years a while back until 2009 when I got a new computer. I don't know how to navigate the interface anymore...

sudo apt-get install lubuntu-desktop
sudo apt-get install kubuntu-desktop
sudo apt-get install awesome
Thanks! Although I only see Ubuntu and Ubuntu 2D.... Anyways I'm installing The Kubuntu interface right now, so thanks again!
Correction, Unity is the TI-81 incarnation of Ndless (http://www.ticalc.org/archives/files/fileinfo/425/42572.html). On a calculator forum, calc definitions of software names must have priority over their computer counterparts. Otherwise, it will encourage Texas Instruments to implement division by zero on their OSes. :PErm....what?Unity sucks.
Have a try to Gnome 3 (select GNOME when you login) =)
Unity is a Gnome shell for the Gnome 3 desktop environment, just like Gnome Shell. Perhaps you mean Gnome Shell?
I'm so confused at what you meant right now.
To clarify to everybody:
Unity and Gnome 3 are two very different things. One is being developed and maintained by the people behind Ubuntu, and the other by, well the people behind Gnome 2, and 1 :P
Gnome Shell is the desktop manager for Gnome 3 and as far as I know it has nothing to do with Unity. Unity came into being after a dispute on the path Gnome 3 was going to take.
Yeah, indeed, Unity (the TI-81 utility) > Unity (the current Ubuntu WM).
And I change my background once in a while according to my mood, currently it's Cirno.

This is what it looks like without any icons, though I plan on theming them and distributing them across my virtual desktops, as well as including a Rocketdock. I'm also planning on theming Windows Explorer and Opera to match.
Someday, maybe someday, I will organize my desktop so all the icons can actually fit on the screen without them going off the edges or piling up on top of each other.I would like to see this with my insane 2560x1440 resolution.
Yah im trying to stay organized but if i showed you my previous desktop you'd die O.ODid it look like this? :P
But thats organized for me i guess :|
Nope, Windows 7.I'm redoing my desktop yet again... But this time, it should make everyone smile, smile, smile! (http://gotvirtual.net/community/useralbums/722/standalone)

I know in Windows XP you can put web pages on your dektop, but I can't find out how to so it on windows 7. Anyone here know how?Impossible, they removed ActiveDesktop (orso)
Shrear where did you get your bg from? It's an in Paint.net edited version of the cover of "Spellforce2" (Pc Game). The girls name is Nightsong in case it interests someone.
From my experience, Rainmeter doesn't seem eat too much CPU power, but I've never benchmarked it, so I don't know for sure.
mah netbook
also i love this background but i cant find it on teh interwebz any more :<
Juju: no files on desktop for you? ( You know about the gnome tweak tool right? )No file whatsoever on my desktop. I leave everything in my home directory, usually, and keep my desktop clean. And yeah the Gnome tweak tool is kinda nice.
that sucks eeems and juju :<If you want :P
also thoughts on taking the background in my picture and making it a skin for my netbook? yay or nay?
ephan, how do you and I share a desktop wallpaper?
Puppy Linux! :DYep :D I really like the way it handles persistency. Instead of keeping a filesystem in a file (like "casper," which Ubuntu uses when you boot it off a thumb drive), Puppy deletes and re-saves the entire filesystem into an encrypted file when you end your session.
a somewhat modified version of this (http://i-e.animepaper.net/thumbnails/preview/22432/1/%5Banimepaper.net%5Dwallpaper-standard-anime-serial-experiments-lain-lonely-wired-child-22432-becomewired-preview-90982c92.jpg) background. yay lain!

You must have a *very* big phone.
My mom has a Samsung Galaxy Note, it's pretty big. Like, halfway between a phone and a tablet while still being a phone. Or a tablet.Yeah I saw. Actually I saw a tablet at BestBuy that was pretty much the same size.
Also changelings? ??? Aren't changelings those spying units in Starcraft II? Or are you refering to Frey's wallpaper?Frey's wallpaper yeah. Oh wait are you saying My Little Pony copied on Starcraft? o.o
meh mine has less desktop iconsI love this wallpaper a LOT O.O

Looks nice. I didn't know we could get custom themes like this. All I did was changing the wallpaper on mine lol (to the Omni bg).You would have to jailbreak to be able to get custom themes.
Shift+Print Screen is better.
i thought only hitting that print button copies (on windows) to the clipboard.Yes it does, and then you can save it using paint or another image editor.
(anybody know any good gray iconsets? :P)Seems like I found one :D
(Anyone else notice it's in three levels of gray? >.>)Yup :P
Whoa, that wallpaper is awesome! Can you post the wallpaper itself, Chockosta?Sure ! Here you are
Yeah Google needs to fix their shit. First, the SDK won't let us download anything and secondly, the tools to make screenshots in the up to date SDK won't even run.I think it was fixed now. When you tried, I wasn't even able to download anything from Google, then I tried later and it worked. IMO you were just an infortunate victim of Murphy's Law.

Wow, you can almost use that workspace switcher as a sort of sprite editor 0.o
Wonder if I should give kde a real try at some point..live-tested it once and it just seemed really cluttered and weird to use :/

I agree with sorunome :P Mine used to extend beyond visible boundaries, there were like 3 more columns to the right XD now it's pretty organized.Mine did too. But then I got a new computer and vowed to never let that happen again :P

I can barely stand to have more then 5 things on my desktop. I constantly am tossing them into folders to reduce clutterthat sounds a bit extreme, but I know what you mean. I don't ever keep any files on my desktop—just some shortcuts to oft-used apps. (It's Windows Vista, so no Mac-style launcher for me.)
EDIT: And now you all know my name. That's why my user is called 'Sorunome'
I don't like having multiple icons either.
Trying out GNOME 3, not sure if I like it yet. I might switch back to fallback or that other one... MATE, that's it.
Not sure what's up with my Steam and TF2 icons.
Also, if you noticed my tabs, I'm working on my French project that's due tomorrow and I've done close to nothing :P
EDIT: And now you all know my name.

My desktop is still the same as it was before, except now I'm slowly starting to put icons on my desktop. Now there are 12.12 Icons isn't much. My desktop is a clutter. My download folder is a clutter. My home folder is a clutter. Anyone wanne have pics of them? XD
I fear the day when it shall become clutter.
I'm using openbox, so I do most things though a terminal, or chrome. Otherwise right click for apps. Want me to make a video?you don't need to, thanks anyways ;)
/me wonders at the purpose of shutterOh, that is why it looked so familiar. Isn't it only for taking screenshots? O.o
what does it do that other simple tools without an icon don't?

And btw, does anyone remember the planet they were on in the second image? The one where they have to destroy the power generator with the imperial walkers, i want to know, since i forgot the name...
Ah I see. Too bad it's CPU intensive. >.<*GPU intensive. If Minecraft is not already CPU bottlenecked, then the CPU is fine. But even if it runs too slow to be playable, it's still great for screenshots.
right, that's it indeed, thanks :)And btw, does anyone remember the planet they were on in the second image? The one where they have to destroy the power generator with the imperial walkers, i want to know, since i forgot the name...
it's hoth (the ice planet) if my memory is good.
Nope, it's sunglasses. I borrowed it somewhere on Internet. I can send it to you if you want. ;)Haha that's what I meant :) Those are aviator glasses, and you put them on Darth Vader (if i'm not mistaken), so I called it Aviavader
Here's mine. I made it with Geektool. Tell me if you want some of my stuff. Is that a XKCD widget? Nice! :DSpoiler For Spoiler:

how did you get that large dock to look like that? For the big one at the top left it's put on the left side, shifted all the way up (so it detects it's in a corner) and not expanded. Basically the same thing I did in the past (http://ourl.ca/3395/329449), only bigger and with less icons :P

That looks pretty nice! I'm really digging the colour scheme. :DAs I said (http://ourl.ca/3395/344107), I prefer dark backgrounds. I think Luna (or Nightmare Moon or Nyx) is pretty much the only pony who fits this criteria. Plus she looks pretty badass.
2 screens? O.O/me wants one of your screensI have two 24 inch 1080p screens. I would have 3, but I don't have the desk space.

Who needs that much ram and that much space O.O
Who needs that much ram and that much space O.OI run virtual machines a lot. 16GB isn't actually enough RAM for me.
Hm, not sure whether to feel good or bad about rarely using more than 2gb of ram at once now. Some people would say .5 tb is bad, but really, what the heck are you doing that will take up a full TB???
Also 0.5tb hard drive partitioned to different OSes..that's pretty good right :P
My desktop hasn't really changed over the past month or two..that's a first. Tho I have been fiddling with gnome pie a bit ._.
Games. My games folder on Windows is like 400GB.Yeah, that's the part I didn't mention, mine is: 537 gb of games/game related files.
I currently have 86 games on steam. That isn't including the games that I don't have on steam. Plus I record gameplay sometimes and at 1080p at 60fps with fraps my drive fills up quick. Virtual machines can take up a lot of space as well ;)Hm, not sure whether to feel good or bad about rarely using more than 2gb of ram at once now. Some people would say .5 tb is bad, but really, what the heck are you doing that will take up a full TB???

So, really I could live with just 200 gb no prob.
Since I got my computer in the past 5 months, it has a TB though.
A Macintosh emblem on a PC? Blasphemy! :PI once had a custom XP theme installed that looked like Mac OS X. However, my computer OS crashed a few months later and I had other problems prior that after setting the theme. I believe my copy might have been infected or something. It looked cool, though.
*edit* Congrats on 1000 posts! ;D
you wouldn't loose any files if you back 'em up to an external hdd and check if the backup was successful (unlike me >.<)It might as well take hours to back the important files up, and I don't have a blank external HDD. Can't get my folks to buy one either.

What I wonder is if Windows 8.1 for desktops really brings back the Windows 7 style start menu?
What I wonder is if Windows 8.1 for desktops really brings back the Windows 7 style start menu?It doesn't open a proper menu afaict, it leads to the tiles screen :/
making things flat really helps for saving space, because tiling wms like this look gross otherwise. You could also use something different than gedit for developpment, like emacs or vim. You will earn a lot more space.
I meant how in Windows 8, instead of the Windows 95 or XP start menu, a new page appears with tiles like on a smartphone. Windows 8 got many negative criticism due to that because many people have been used to the original menu for 15 years and are not willing to have to get used to something new or saw the forced change pointless. What I wonder is if Windows 8.1 for desktops really brings back the Windows 7 style start menu?
What do you mean? (I have windows 8 for desktop(Unfortunately))
Kind of ot, but what's up with this flatness trend in graphic design lately? Here we are in the 21st century.. and we're making bright, loudly-colored interfaces that look like 3.1 themes without bevels or something. Edges and corners seem to mostly be aliased. Not too sure, but maybe 3D stuff is seen as a bit too fancy nowadays and they're slowly trying to head back to Atari 2600 style GUIs. That said, I don't think Omni would look too bad if gradients were removed and replaced with a two-color thing, as long as the right color scheme was used.
There's even gtk themes picking up on it :P
Windows 8 looks ugly :PIt could be worse, though. To continue Darl's discussion about GUIs that gets simpler and simpler, maybe the following is the future of desktop OS design? :P
No, that's Windows 9.I lol'ed. That said, in Windows 7 I had FAR less problems than in XP. I haven't tried Vista enough to judge, though. Windows 98 (non-SE) and XP were crash-havens, although at least XP was just apps behaving weirdly, requiring CTRL+ALT+DEL, rather than BSOD's every minute or so. I have only needed to force restart my Seven computer once.
All versions after that will be completely nonfunctional (continuing the trend of Windows).
For example, Windows 10 will look like this:
Alright guys, enough bashing Windows. Lets get back on topic.Again, I would like to reiterate this.
You could also use something different than gedit for developpment, like emacs or vim. You will earn a lot more space.
Why did i expect a RD wallpaper :PBecause she's awesome. :P
You put your computer screen sideways? D:Nah, this is just the left half of my desktop.
I see many graphists have of their screens in portrait orientation. It's maybe less practical in games, but more designed to design. (Heh! A source code monitor with more lines!)That's actually true—I find it easier to keep track of code on a vertical screen. Too bad this is on a laptop :P
I see many graphists have of their screens in portrait orientation. It's maybe less practical in games, but more designed to design. (Heh! A source code monitor with more lines!)actually, some games require that too. One Wii game in particular, which is like Touhou, requires that you place your TV vertically, same with an homebrew Atari 2600 raycaster.
Wait, do the publishers of that game expect the user to turn the whole tv 90° to play that game and then turn it back? :PI see many graphists have of their screens in portrait orientation. Lol I have a video projector. :P It probably has a rotate feature but say bye to HD. <_<
And yes, this thing has worse resolution than my Playstation Vita.Lol. And yeah my projector is 1080p but theater ones were already 4k for years.
I hate projectors because they break all the time.Ours is a high end one (not a super high end but pretty good) and we never had problems with it. It even has 3D and we have a 3m wide screen to project on. :P
speaking of which, the projectors in our school, they always show 'please change the air filter' when you turn 'em on (in german of cource).
And in some are spelling mistakes XD

Yeah there was a news on the front page about it, but I think that was when you left Omni and other calc sites for nearly 3 months or so.
new theme time =DThis desktop is quite nice. I'm also switching to MATE and Awesome and I found your rc.lua on github. Gonna use some pieces of it. Mind sharing your Beautiful theme ? Also what's you GTK theme ?

ah I see now. I hope she is ok right now btw. As for RFG the entire image content is still up right now so images that were already uploaded remained intact, but we can't upload anymore. The host no longer had time to monitor the many porn that kept getting uploaded there and he didn't want trouble.Yeah there was a news on the front page about it, but I think that was when you left Omni and other calc sites for nearly 3 months or so.
Yeah, I probably missed a lot during that time. I was staying with my Grandma to help her out, didn't have internet too much.

I actually use IE11 sometimes, since Youtube upload is broken in Chrome/Opera/Firefox/Safari it seems, and some sites are IE-only. However, it's slow-ish D:IE isn't that bad performance-wise nowadays. It also has low memory usage, so I find it useful when I'm on a machine with only 2GB of RAM. XD ClrDraw, that is hilarious. I wonder what a Mac version of that wallpaper would look like...Lol, "Firefox has encountered a problem with apple" with like a ton of apples falling on the fox!
That's pretty cool, you made that??Do you have it tiled or do you have a very small res screen? :P It could be centered I guess...
This is my backgroud XD

New wallpaper. Made by myself. Good old Blender Internal render engine.
Technical infos : I used particles + render as objects for placing the trees. I added a little vertex group to limit the trees to the grass.
I don't understand people who use desktop shortcuts.I prefer using desktop shortcuts so I don't need to spend 1 minute navigating to the folders that has all my files. I save a considerable amount of time doing so. However, for important applications I prefer using the Start menu or the quick launch menu, depending of how often I use them. To each their own I guess (besides, my current wallpaper is tiled anyway, so it repeats over and over)
What's the point of having a nice wallpaper if it's constantly covered with crap.
for those who might be interested, this is how my desktop is organised:Spoiler For Spoiler:

That iMac got quite a lot of uptime since I got it repaired so I think it is repaired. They didn't repaired it correctly last time. ._.Indeed, but we never know. If it was assembled on a Monday morning when workers are still recovering from an hangover or on Friday afternoon when they are exhausted from their week of work, it's possible that the computer is just a lemon and have plenty of other defects (and I heard that batch of iMacs in particular was plagued with problems, while other iMacs were fine).

I'll eventually get around to customizing the Wibox but for now I like it. :)
Weird all my hardware is supported but again, it's previous gen stuff. :/Yeah, that. See, here (http://www.clubic.com/carte-graphique/carte-graphique-nvidia/actualite-562088-gtx-700m.html) in May they talk about the announcement of the upcoming graphic card that is mine, so it is not out yet in May, and I got it in July so I guess they first made drivers for Win8 before making them for 7.
Hm yeah I don't upgrade often... Once in a while though. Each time I have to update the kernel I have to copy some files manually to another partition so it boots correctly...UEFI boot ? I use rEFInd which includes BTRFS drivers so all my Linux partitions (/, /boot and /home) are BTRFS and I don't have to maintain anything. :P

Thanks bb010g, I'll try this out before next time I upgrade (with the necessary modifications obviously, because I have no EFI, but that should work :P ).I used the /etc/fstab way and mounted/binded /boot to the place where I have to put the kernel. I guess it works.

conky really isn't worth the time and the effort. it looks nice, but in the end it's a resource watcher that hogs resources itself. you should take a look at vicious; it embeds things directly in a wiibox and sets timers for grabbing different resources so they're only checked when they need to be instead of all together. that + a quick call to htop when you're actually curious about what exactly is using up your resources would accomplish the same goal without being as taxing.Who said it was easy to waste resources on my PC ?
How is awesome doing now, anyway? I used it a while ago, but ended up switching to xmonad because of the lack of documentation for the git version. In person the amiga is still pretty big. It is about 6 times as large as a modern keyboard. It's officially supported by CyanogenMod.Only for devices running 4.2.2 or lower, though. Mine isn't.
Here's a guide for flashing : http://wiki.cyanogenmod.org/w/Install_CM_for_d2vzw
And here are the nightlies : http://download.cyanogenmod.org/?type=nightly&device=d2lte

Same here. For images people sometimes use user width but we can't with attachments. Maybe they could be made like on certain forums where clicking them enlarges them. Not sure if that's possible on SMF, tho.Wait, you can do that ? O.O I usually set it to 1000 pixels unless it's smaller.
Anyways: 4k screen?Sounds like it. :D
Anyways: 4k screen?
The native resolution is a little small, but if i put it in 1080p HiDPi it is just to big (but really sharp). You can probably use xrandr to force your display to a certain resolution. I used newrez (which is using xrandr) to set my netbook's resolution to 1344x752, which is not really standard.
I was trying to set it in 1440p HiDPi (because that is a nice resolution) and then scale it down to UHD, but my Graphics card is not willing to give me 5120x2880, but it would probably look really good.
For now i see it as a good investment, do you guys think about getting a 4k monitor? As you said, everything is too small so I don't really see the point of buying a 4K monitor to set its resolution to 1080p, which is what I would do if I got one :P

As for 4K res screens I doubt my graphic card and computer would even handle them because the graphic cars is from early 2012 and the computer, although an higher end work machine, early 2010.
However, isn't it possible in some OSes to resize the theme fonts and icons on large resolutions to make them easier to read? I remembieber it was possible under Windows 2000 and XP.

ITunes doesn't run via wine, according to winehqiTunes is literally the only program I ever run on Windows/me shudders
Why would you use a Windows VM for iTunes?
Just finished setting up my computer again with Xubuntu and Windows 8. Not dual-boot—Windows 8 is running in VirtualBox in Seamless mode :PWhat XFCE theme is that? (Also, how'd you get the workspace widget that small (if that is it in the upper left corner)?)

What XFCE theme is that?Numix everywhere (Numix theme, Numix window manager theme, Numix notifications) with a bit of tweaking (I changed the highlight color back to sky blue and added transparency to the panel and window decorations).
(Also, how'd you get the workspace widget that small (if that is it in the upper left corner)?)What do you mean? It's the standard Workplace Switcher panel plugin set up with four workspaces and two rows.
Nice features indeed. I used Yakuake back when ran KDE. Now that I'm on a tiling manager I have no use for a Quake style terminal though. :PI also enabled a couple of keyboard shortcuts (Ctrl+Alt+numpad) for tiling windows.
Also screen zoom is pretty useful, I'll have to look into it. Do you have compositing on ? With which manager ?It's just the standard XFCE compositor (not sure what it's called), which handles window decorations (shadow, transparency).
wait, xfce has that by defualt? I use guake >.<Yep, it's kinda hidden though. Just add a keyboard shortcut (Settings > Keyboard > Application Shortcuts) to xfce4-terminal --dropdown.

The waves on this wallpaper makes me wish I could have an animated wallpaper on my Windows 7 machine. Back in the Windows XP days, it was still possible to have animated wallpapers. :PYou can try Dreamscene, but I didnt have much luck when i used it.
I might check it out. My concern about third-party alternatives and custom themes is that they sometimes hide malicious stuff so after a year of use my Windows install files get corrupted for no visible reason. Also, some might be too CPU-intensive.Another option would be to use a Rainmeter widget with the same res as your desktop and set it to be on the desktop and be invisible to clicks. If you have a .gif in mind I could make a script for you.

Is there a SMF mod that auto resizes large images so that they fit in their post?Yes and no, You can automatically resize attachments, but that breaks gifs.
Although IMHO I encourage people to manually resize them in an editor before posting them or just put a link to it. Unlike myself, certain members have bandwidth caps.
Ah sorry to hear. Does it break GIFs that are not resized or does it break all of them? That said, I seriously would hope that no one here would post a 1920x1080 gif of their desktop, especially not an animated one <_<It breaks them all.

XFCE is great. What panel-plugins are you using? My XFCE only came with a few and I haven't been able to find any to replicate the Gnome experience...I'm not trying to replicate the GNOME experience (though I do admit GNOME is my favorite UI in a desktop so far).
A lot has changed since my last screenshot. I now run Arch Linux with XFCE.What Firefox theme is that? I've been looking for a flat one.
