Hi guys, I know I've been taking a break for a while from Axe development and the forums here, but I'm pleased to announce that starting tomorrow, I will be resuming :)
As some of you know, I have been spending a lot of time at work and school, but now that I've graduated, its going to be just working full time. What I did not say before is the company I am working for because previously we were in stealth mode meaning that most things had to remain secretive. But now that we did our public launch last Monday, I can talk more about it. The company is called Leap Motion (http://www.leapmotion.com/) and we create 3D input device that tracks precise motions of your fingers and hands in full 3D (sub-millimeter accuracy). It will eventually be integrated into monitors, phones, and laptops as a replacement for touch screens and mice, but for now the device is standalone. Pre-orders ship out around December and you should see it on store shelves shortly after that.
If you have some cool ideas and a good coding background, you can get a free developer kit if you apply now, so encourage you to apply if you're interested.
By the way, another community member is also interning here via a recommendation. :)

*yay* Axe parser rocks!
And congrats for your graduation!

I think you are in the right place :P
Also, welcome back, hope you have some time to work on the Axe Parser :)
-
Congrats Quigibo and welcome back!
And that looks like a really cool place to work :o Imagine that on a calculator.
-
Awesome! Great to see you back!
I'd seen an article about the Leap on OMG! Ubuntu! a few days ago, but I didn't realize you worked for them. That's really cool!
-
Yay Quigibo is back :D And for those of you who didn't know, I am the one who is interning there, due to the awesome recommendations by Quigibo :] I start Tuesday and I am very excite!
-
:o Leap looks so cool. My arm is getting tired from looking at it though...
-
dude quigibo ö that's just increadible... i can't believe this was possible yet, did you really help developing that product?
that's soooo cool
-
Hot damn.
-
i want one but i dont think my begginer knowledge in computer coding is enough to get one :<

Until I read the rest of your post, I thought you got hired by TI or something O.O
Anyway welcome back. I haven't been active much lately since I was extremely busy too, hence the lack of news articles from myself. D:
Also Leap Motion looks awesome.
-
Wow Leap motion o.o
Welcome back Quigibo!
-
too bad it's still so long before they get shipped :( but i'm patient, i'll wait for it :)
-
What happened to Quigibo? O.O
-
He's been really busy with work unfortunately D: We have a lot going on right now and there is a lot to work on!
-
Yeah he seemed like he was gonna be less busy actually according to his post, then he immediately vanished O.O . I guess work can be pretty unpredictable
-
Wow. I just watched the Leap video, and... wow. That is AMAZING. Must be awesome to have a job there.
-
WOAH! My father got home the other day, and he said "Have you checked out Leap?" and I said "No."
A few minutes later, on public Portuguese TV, BANG, LEAP! And my dad said "Look, Leap!", and I said "Oh, it looks pretty cool".
And now I find out awesome Quigibo works on Leap? Damn, awesome job, and welcome back!
-
Wait, I just looked at the site again, and i noticed something that is almost too good to be true. Developers get a FREE Leap? AWESOME!!!!!
-
I think it's a very good investment they're making. Leap Motion is dramatically different from everything we're used to—no one's made a serious commercial attempt at anything like it thus far—and the only way they can sell it in the mass market of the new future is if they make sure that there already are a ton of programs that consumers can actually use with it. Otherwise, for the vast majority of their intended audience, this would just be "another cool idea" nobody uses.
By giving developers the device for free, they can hit the ground running: by the time they start selling the units, there'll already be a decent number of ways their customers can use the product.
Notice they specifically ask developers who are applying if they have any plans to sell apps for Leap in their "store."

I was talking about this with sai119 today, and we figured it out. They're probably making it for $30 to $40, and selling it for $70. By giving a developer a free unit, they probably lose about $40. Each developer can probably directly get 5 people to buy the Leap. So per every developer, they have a net gain of $310. Plus Leap probably gets a small cut of all app sales. These figures aren't taking into account the fact that more apps means more customers.
-
Welcome back! Glad to have you around again.
-
Actually he's not back JustCause, this post about him being back was his very last on the forums, a month or so ago. D: As for Leap Motion it looks interesting, I'm curious what will come out of it in terms of gaming. :D
-
wb quigibo. I'm going to be watching leap with interest :)
-
I would totally want to see where that Leap thing is going to. I guess Quigibo is too busy with it.

That's a good point too—they'd be really productive beta testers of a sort, and would probably naturally convince some of their friends to buy the product when it gets released.
And glad you're still around Quigibo. That sounds like a really awesome job. What do you get to do there?
