Apparently there's a GB accessory/mod called the Arduinoboy that enables MIDI on the GB. There also seem to be an LSDJ one.

He states in the description he uses FL Studio and Avid Pro Tools together with some 8-bit plugins (Plogue Chipsounds and Sytrus) and his Korg R3 plugged in as a MIDI controller, meaning he can literally control FL Studio with his Korg. It's not quite hard to do with the right software and hardware, I do exactly that sometimes when I feel like playing some piano.

It's also possible to do that with LSDJ, but it'd probably require you to plug and solder some wires to your Gameboy.

if the GBA is only 4 bits, then that might explain the horrible sound quality in some GBA ports of SNES/Sega games.

AFAIK the GBA has the GB/GBC audio hardware accessible through the z80 (used by some games) + 2 PWM channels. At least that's what Willrandship told me.

That's quite the mix of epicness, wtf-ness and youngsterness. It was awesome.

FUn fact : the SNES soundchip is a Sony one, did you guess why the GBA doesn't have one? (Hint : PlaySomething contract between Nintendo and Sony has been broken and thus they became "ennemies".)

Nintendo and Sony wanted to make a CD drive for the Nintendo 64, it later been cancelled and Sony went ahead and made their own console with a CD drive, the PlayStation.
