Sleeping Problems

Okay, in the last... maybe 5 days this is the second time I couldn't fall asleep despite being sick and tired as hell.
I've been up, once again, all freaking night.
I guess it doesn't help that I've had a couple of personal problems pop up recently.

...so, my question to you guys is... what should I do to get some sleep?
Or maybe... what the fuck is wrong with me? >_<

unfortunately i can't really help besides telling to make sure your sleep schedule is as regular as possible (for example, not go to bed at 5 AM and wake up at 3 PM then another day go to bed at 10 PM then wake up at 6 AM) and not try to sleep way too long (above 10 hours) or wake up too late. I do know personal issues and sickness can cause some insomnia, though, when I got the flu sometimes I take considerably longer to fall asleep.

I know this sounds strange but I usually just watch an hour of crappy cartoons then I fall right asleep cartoon network at about 1:00 is great for going to sleep.

Missed that time slot... maybe I'll put on Dora the Explorer or something... (it's early enough now)

True... Hm... but hardstyle techno isn't putting me to sleep either.
Wow, this blows. I even had to drive out to do some errands like 30 minutes ago and car rides normally make me sleepy.

...
Hm, I think I need to get some tranquilizers or something. I REALLY miss sleeping and there's no way that staying up can be healthy.

Here's what I do (I too have some serious sleeping issues):
- Get a consistent sleep schedule and stick to it, even on weekends.
- Don't do anything that is really stimulating within an hour of going to bed (this includes games and a computer).
- Have some light background noise while you're trying to sleep (like a fan).
- Try not to let your mind wander; focus on your breathing or the noise.
- At first, you'll have to force yourself to get out of bed (this is probably the hardest part).

- If you take something for ADD/ADHD (I don't know if this is relevant to you or not):  most of the medications are stimulants, so make sure you take it early enough in the morning so it's not still active at night.

And what I do whenever I stray too far from this:
- Take a break from some highly stimulating/time-consuming things (if you can), like programming or computer stuff.
- Go to bed a little earlier than what your goal is.
- Take a sleeping pill (Somonex works for me) while you're doing this to force you to get a consistent sleep schedule.  Make sure you don't get addicted though.

Those are the big things that I do, but it might be overkill for you.

If you aren't yet feeling any obvious physical symptoms of not having enough sleep, then it would probably be best not to worry about it, since doing so usually just makes it even harder to go to sleep. But if you are noticing side-effects that you can definitely attribute to not getting enough sleep, and still can't get to sleep anyway, then you should probably look for advice or maybe even talk to a doctor or something.

Short periods of insomnia that occur from time to time are normal, I think, especially when stress/sickness exist, and probably aren't worth worrying about since they usually pass eventually. But if you don't get any sleep for more than a week, then it's probably time to get some kind of help just to be safe.

Mhmm... that might make things even worse x.x

Hard music can sometimes do the same effect than some video games, I think it's usually better to not listen to hard music right before sleeping, or at least not too loud.

About sleeping pills, I'm not too much a fan of these, not because of the addiction but because these almost costed me my mother because of the psychological side effects.

Also, not having a comfortable place to sleep can usually make it much harder to sleep

Glass of milk 30 min before you go to bed.  I have a little sleeping problem, and while this sounds a bit young, it works every time :)  something to do with sugars and stuff...

sugars... hmm... that's another thing I forgot about. Not everyone has hypoglycemia or diabet diagnosticed but they might still have it and they don't know. When eating sugar, you feel like if it was 20F higher and like if it was humid and more excited. That can cause serious trouble sleeping. I personally try to avoid highly sweetened stuff 4 hours before sleeping

I'm having this since I was 12 xO
I sleep 4-6 hours a day except for at the weekends
(that's actually also beceause otherwise I can't communicate with people in other timezones but whatever.. -_- )

I have some sort of weird problems. I am unsure if it's a coincidence or not, but when I sleep for over 9 hours, I end up with an headache during the entire day almost everytime. I wonder what could be causing it? Tylenols does the trick, but taking that too often is apparently not good, plus for very huge headaches like today, they barely even does any effect anyway.

Your most likely dehydrated one of the first syntoms of dehydration is tiredness then headaches you can aliviate this by slowly drinking lots of water.
