and add some TI-83 aSM games to that, since theres a TI-83 emulator for TI-89 that run a few games

in europe most ppl use TI-89 it seems, especially in france and germany, over here and usa its mostly TI-83+

I think he meant larger audience as opposed to the V200.
If you didn't program before, I recommend starting with the TI-89's built-in BASIC: the language is surprisingly flexible (it has functions and pointers!), the editor is great, it has a built-in function reference, everything you need
