no I wouldn't go that far, our government only works because of legalized political conflict

the point is, adults are well, adults and supposedly can take a punch.

I'm no worried about the children anyway

This reminds me of the anti-bullying bill of rights thing  that was recently discussed about on Cemetech http://cemetech.net/forum/viewtopic.php?t=6680 , except that that one was for school bullying.

The problem with the school one was that it could have lead to abuse, such as a kid getting punished just for telling another kid that he sucks even though the other kid is not affected that much but decides to report him because he hates him or something. Of course I think if a student is reported repeatdely for harrassment it should be checked out.

Online the anonymity makes it even harder to stop bullying. It's up to each site management to decide what is allowed on their site and what's not and to make their mind about what is considered as innapropriate or not, then apply their rules on the offenders accordingly to their policies. I think the only time action could be taken against someone for cyberbullying is if that cyberbully won't leave a certain person alone and stalks her everywhere she goes online (or even her IRL activities). However each site that are not ran by government and are private entities (like Omnimaga) are free to have their own rules and even limit free speech and the members are given the privilege of using that site as long as they respect the rules they have to agree with upon registering.

(On a side note the nDoom policy is simply a modified version of Omnimaga rules and its enforcements, where rule 1/2 violation usually lead to an automatic ban for the rest of the day instead of a first warning and an extra rule is temporarily added that disallows people to tell moderators how to run Omnimaga. However in many cases that policy was never really enforced that much and it usually even require many more offenses before someone gets a stronger punishment such as a 1 week ban or permaban. It usually lasts during Summer and late Fall)

Yeah it's fine if you disagree with it. The only thing is you need to make sure to follow the rules (like other members) so you won't face the same thing as another forum member recently (who deliberately tried to start fights with snide remarks). Omnimaga is meant to be free of those after all, so the members who are not fine with this might need to find another forum, even if it means less members for us.

And yeah I think you signed up around when the nDoom policy was re-instated. Generally we also go with post rating, though. A lot of forum members also tries to keep Omnimaga friendly and encourage other people to be friendly, so if we see a forum member gets in the low negatives, then we know there is something wrong, as typically if someone finds a post rude/trollish but it isn't that bad, other people will rate it back up anyway.

EDIT: Also yeah I remember that Pokémon argument X.x.

Rating is kinda borked cause everything I say is going to get rated by a majority and if I say anything controversial or counter-cultural here it could be interpreted as trolling.... but bad! Back on topic! Yeah! This bill sucks and will never make it.

Also I found this http://www.techdirt.com/articles/20111001/00002316160/ny-state-senators-say-weve-got-too-much-free-speech-introduce-bill-to-fix-that.shtml (from Cemetech again)

I seriously hope this never passes. There's a fine line between maybe trying to help desesperate people near suicide that got bullied to extreme extents and making free speech a privilege. This could totally get abused. On an internet sense my fear is if they start trying to take down sites non-stop that bashes governments or even other group of people like Jonas Brothers. I mean for example if a site let continuous anti-Omnimaga bashing/propaganda go on, then it sucks for us and it might be libel/slander, but I don't think law should interfer in what we want to say online where it is allowed. After all, what happens when mass-Omni-bashing occurs elsewhere is that plenty of people stops visiting that site as much and they lose considerable amounts of traffic.

The only time they should interfer is if for example Netham45 decided to plan a terrorist attack on seafood departments of local supermarkets and the planning was done on here (and nothing was done about it by Omni admins).

Borked?

Oh well :p
If you say anything "controversial or counter-cultural"  it often helps to have a smily (or any other face :/ ) with it to show what you are trying to say.

Personally, I think that they mean well by this, however, they're not going to find a way to accomplish their goals. Both suggestions they gave for what constitutes a punishable offense are terribly inadequate.

Spoiler For IMPORTANT NEWS!:
Late last night, Quebec was invaded by a group calling themselves, "Omnimaga". Not much is known about these mysterious people except that they all carried calculators of some kind and they all seemed to converge on one house in particular. Experts estimate that the combined power of their fabled calculators is greater than all the worlds super computers put together. The group seems to be holding out in the home of a certain DJ_O, who the Omnimagians claim to be their founder. Such power has put the world at a standstill with everyone waiting to see what the Omnimagians will do...

Wait... This just in, the Omnimagians have sent the UN a list of demands that must be met or else the world will be "submitted to the wrath of Netham45's Lobster Army". Such demands include >9001 crates of peanuts, sacrificial blue lobsters, and a wide assortment of cherry flavored items. With such computing power stored in the hands of such people, we can only hope these demands are met.

In the wake of these events, we can only ask, Why? Why do these people make these demands, what caused them to gather, and what are their future plans...
