Meishe91 while I think that Snake X generalizes too much when talking about Runescape and Ashbad remark is a bit narrow-minded, I think there are more polite ways to defend a game and I personally think those games are made to keep people addicted, which is the bad part of them. Also, a bad community can make a game kinda bad if it only relies on the community. Starcraft 1 multiplayer mode is nice but the online community kinda ruins it, as practically everyone there loves to call people names, troll or hack. Halo 3 community isn't as bad in-game, but outside the game it's shit. Go post a Youtube video of you playing Halo 3: I bet you'll disable comments pretty quick. Some games unfortunately attracts bad groups of people so it's obvious that someone will criticise the community of a game if he had nothing but bad experiences with it. It's kinda like the TI community. If you join #tigcc and everyone there starts insulting you for using BASIC, even the admins, you will not really have a positive opinion of that community.

Also about game addictions, my bro got addicted to a MMORPG once and spent lots of money in its online store. At one point I went close to having to pay the entire rent instead of just half of it. We tried to help him for a while but to no avail. We ended up being forced to block the game IP on my router and password-protect the router admin panel. Now he's fine and controls himself very well, but I sure had to deal with lots of trouble because of his addiction. In some cases you even warn people to be careful to not play too much and they won't listen. There are multiple things or people that can be responsible of such addiction too.

Anyway I think the way you worded this Meishe was rude and uncalled for.

I'm sorry about that.  I guess I should've thought about it in a different perspective.  Sorry again :(

It's ok. Sometimes we tend to generalize when talking about something but don't mean it necessarly either. Back then  Omni ran into troubles with a bunch of people from a community in particular and when talking about those troubles I sometimes referd to those people as the name of the community x.x. It gave them the impression that I was blaming that entire community for the action of a few. However, when like 90% of the people you meet somewhere are bad you will most likely get convinced the community is bad.

I guess so, there is going to be 10% good, but the whole of the community will be pretty bad stuff :|

On Starcraft 1, what usually happens is when you play in team, if you don't defend ppl enough (in some cases it's their fault for building no defense/units), even if you spent the entire game doing so, you get insults. Same if you're not good enough. If you win vs some ppl they blame their teamates or they accuse you of hacking. IN one case, ppl who insulted their teamates got a tiny base with nothing.

In SC2 it happens too although it is not as bad as SC1 so far, since everyone's still learning the ropes.

Changed my avatar to something more like an avatar.
When I first got my digital camera, I also happened to have one of those fiber optic light toys.
I discovered the effect you get when you take the picture from the top (near the ends of the threads).
This one in particular was blue.  In my programming teacher's classroom at school there was a photo editing program..."fireworks" I think.  So I opened the pic and played around with the hue.  I have like three-four variations of this photo now.

Edit: found original pic

Nice Dark181. One thing I love to do with image editors is take a part of a picture then make it symetrical, usually in both vertical and horizontal direction. Afterward I modify the hue and other stuff and it creates some sort of fractal. Afterward, I re-use those fractals over and over and I get stuff like the Omnimaga default background or my music album cover pictures.

my old one was a clever merge of 2 pictures:
1. picture of a solar system, but it wasn't square originally so i used powerpoint and added a black square autoshape behind it, aligned to center and middle and saved as picture
2. picture of me (an old one) cropped so that the head was showing only, removed background using Paint.NET (very good free photo editing tool).
3. once i had both pictures, i put them on powerpoint and aligned them to each other, resized the picture of me, but found it didn't really work.
4. Back in paint.NET i edited the pic of me so that it was a bit transparent, and also added a second layer that was a gradient with white on the right side and transparent on the left side. (cant remember some other details)
5. put all the layers together and that's the pic that i had.
pic as an attachment coming soon
6. after the health bars scandal, i thought it was too personal, so i put the expo logo on as a temporary measure. after the expo ends (end of this month) ill consider changing it once again.

PS also i should note that this was originally for my windows live/messenger account, as previously i had a pic of the solar system and wanted to spice it up. i liked the result so much that i put it on other stuff too, such as Omnimaga and my own website.

It's ok, tho, as it won't distort the page. If an avatar is like 30 MB large i may remove it, though, same if it slows down the board considerably.

it's ok, i doubt anyone's pic gets even close to 30mb. i mean my avatar which i just posted was originally 1019x1019, it was so big, i had to create a 300 square copy and repost it. the size of the original file? 677KB. png file by the way. however ive noticed that JPEGs take up Heaps of space compared to png, yet they don't have any advantages (except for metadata tags). they have a disadvantage: they can't have any transparent pixels

On the old forums a member had an avatar this large, though. Also, I believe Allynfolksjr Omni avatar was close to the 2 digits of megabytes as well.
