You may have a weak form of synesthesia. The biggest question is this: how consistent are the colors that you think of?

There are lots of differences in the way connections are made, too. For example, Some people see individual digits as different colors. I see the whole number as one color. 4927 is a specific shade of turquoise for me; it is also the answer to the math problem in the movie Matilda. I haven't seen that movie in at least 7 years. the only reason I remember that number is because I thought it was an interesting color. Words sometimes have color for me, but more often it's the individual letters. I have other connections, too, such as personalities/textures/images that go with some specific numbers/letters, too.

Sometimes, when I see someone feel something, like get touched or hugged, I feel it too. Sometimes it's pseudovoluntary. And sometimes I'll say "Ow" when I get canted when it didn't hurt. Is that synesthesia? And what about For( loops?

I don't know if that would be synesthesia or not. As for saying "Ow" that's just a psychological reflex. And I lol'd about the For( loops :)

But it didn't hurt, and yet it should've, except for the times when it shouldn't've. But seriously, does this mean you've got mental syntax highlighting? Cause if so, that be awesome. I'd just hold Alpha Down and scan for cerulean. Aha, there you are, you errant 63! Are 31 and [1F] the same color?

Even when it doesn't hurt, saying "Ow" is a psychological reflex. It's like when someone pretends to hit you in the face and you flinch. Same idea.

Unfortunately I don't have syntax highlighting :P That would be awesome though!

Also, I haven't used hex long enough to make an immediate connection between hexadecimal values and decimal values, so I would only make a connection after doing the conversion.

But seriously, could you scroll through your code looking for light green and find every 4 in there? So does For( not trigger a color or what?

These colors don't disturb me. When I'm doing math or so, I mostly don't think of this. But it's more that if you ask me which color is that number, that I will know a reply. Some numbers don't have colors to me, but 7 is defenitely green.

@Freyaday: I make connections faster with concepts than symbols, but yes, I could do that at least to some degree. And no, For( doesn't have an immediate color.

@Stefan Bauwens: Sometimes I don't even think about colors when I see numbers, but often I still do. Even so, if you ask me what color a number is, I can always tell you. And they're very specific shades for me. 7 is deep purple. Similar to Z, but darker. My favorite color is 76.

Well, I guess I can say I have a weak form of synthesia. But not at all disturbing. But this doesn't overpower the numbers or so.

Wow. I actually understood that. O.O In my numbering scheme, though, colors are numbered, not the other way around, but that's because I've been mucking around with computer colors too much. Does For( not have a color because you havn't encountered it enough, or what? Certain things remind me of other things though, and make me want to get/listen to those things.

"For" is red with a veeeery slight tinge of orange. Even so, I don't make an immediate connection when seeing the word "For" like I do when seeing numbers.

But is it different for the command? What do you see when you're listening to music and close your eyes?

No, the command is the same color.

Music is interesting, because I make color connections based on tone quality and tambre of sounds, but also shape connections based on sound patterns (for example: words). Stereo music lets me spacially organize and visualize the colors and figures based on where the sounds are coming from. I wish I could describe it completely, but that'd just be impossible :P

Maybe you could write a music visualzation program that shows what you see?

Huh. So it all depends on how your brain stores information. So does the thing where your supposed to read names of colors but they're all printed in a color other than what the word is triply mess with your head? And what happens when you hear the word "four"? Does "the color 4" make sense, and then, 3 secs later, you realize it shouldn't?
Hehe, I actually have a very easy time with that, for some reason. There is also an interesting quiz that I do not know if it is true or not, but it deals with adding some numbers and then you are asked to name a vegetable. Because the number I was asked to think about was 6, the first vegetable that came to mind was eggplant. Apparently there is a certain other vegetable (I don't want to ruin it!) that 98% of people say :D
