That is so weird, but so cool!! I love this. One of the best optical illusions I've ever seen.

EDIT: I tried making my own. Which didn't really work. I don't think it has to be negative, just some kinda effect. Maybe with photoshop.

(I'll post it as soon as I make a gif. Getting used to GIMP takes some work)

I find this funny, because that logo wasn't used for IE until IE7 :P
In IE6, both the e and the round thingy around it were the same light blue color, but in IE7 the e became a darker blue and the thingy became orange.
