Wow look those old Omnimaga pics I found :O
« on: April 25, 2010, 12:32:40 am »
When checking through my web space, I saw those and I thought I would share them.

Look how the staff changed over one year x.x (altough a lot of them were active since the old board days and some new staff were already active on the new board long before hiring)

Now this one is not recent! Look how Omnimaga and TIMGUL looks like in the thumbnails. (This is from late 2007, btw, shortly after TIMGUL started.)

And what about something even older? (note, the spam/randomness board was inside the Misc one)

And of course the very first HTML site is still available for browsing online as posted in another topic before:
http://www.omnimaga.org/oldsite/index_v1.html
http://www.omnimaga.org/oldsite/index_v2.html
http://www.omnimaga.org/oldsite/index_v3.html

Now let's go into the late 2005 to early 2006 stuff. First, at one point we had multiple skins, like today, and here they are:

The 3rd one used to be the board skin. Later the 2nd skin was used, then multiple theme support was added. A survey was made and we switched to the first one above. Multiple forum theme support was removed later as it was too buggy. The second last one was an alternate version of the 2nd theme and the final one was an xLIB xLIB Revolution themed skin

It was even possible to switch to the default IPB 1.3/Invisionfree skin, IPB 2.0 or even PHPBB2 (a modified version for Invisionfree)

And now, the 2006 april fools joke, which involved a fake website cracking had some screenshots taken:

As soon as 4-1 strikes, site defacement!

Skin restored/board back online. All posts deleted by crackers!

Looks like they did not care about epillepsy. They changed the skin not long afterward!

Now that the skin is restored (again), here comes automatic 13375p33k post translation!

And now everyone's nick is prefixed with _plushie (some old Dragon-Fire furry/draconity thing that lasted through most of 2006)

And now Celine Dion needs calc help?

Btw, the trick to pretend the deletion of every post was to create an identical copy of the board categories and make all the old ones invisible from front page. Anyone who's pro at using Invisionfree or IPB 1.x could have figured out how to access them, though, since they were just not linked on board index, not disabled completely.

Any Omni jokes since 2006 and in the future never matched/will never match the 2005 one, though :P (altough some people got offended at the Hitler reference x.x)

Quote
Zelda: The Minish Cap for the 83+SE, April 1, 2005

Out of nowhere, Floda Reltih officially announced the developpement of his first ASM project for the TI-83+ Silver Edition, The Legend of Zelda: The Minish Cap. Released on the GameBoy Advance a few months ago, this new Zelda will soon make its way to the TI-83+ platform.

Using no ROMcalls and the full performance of the 83+SE/84+SE (for memory reasons, no regular 84+ version is planned), this game will feature 8-level grayscale graphics, 5 frames per seconds and all the original game features and contents, all packaged into a 94 pages flash APP. Currently the whole engine is complete as well as the whole storyline, only bosses, shops and mini-games need to be added. Because of memory requirements, there will be only one save file (an application variable that should take around 20 KB of RAM) and the game will require a full memory reset before installation but still, once finished, this game will probably be the greatest achievement in the TI (and maybe Casio and HP) community. Check up for more updates soon!

I added the project in the project section of the website.

Back then, it was hardly known that with CalcCapture software, you could change settings to capture from an emulator other than Virtual TI to make animated screenshots. This one was from a portion of a GBA emulator window. Because that trick was not known well, many people easily felt for the joke.

We never know :P

Either in emulation or as real game port lol. A GBA emu would be pretty slow, though. Its running speed and compatibility would probably be something like TI-Boy SE on the 84+ calcs

Btw Calcdude84se asked on IRC where this news article is from, it's from the original Omnimaga site (3rd design update actually):

Scroll down and you'll run into it

It's nice looking through the old site. It made me remember alot of those old programming groups that used to be around. Strange, it looks like Casio programming was pretty popular 6 years ago. O_o I never knew that.

Yeah around 2004-06 it was because there was the new MLC language being developed, Classpad 300 was open to third party dev and the Casio FX-9860G, which is much more powerful than the old FX calcs, came out. The only time where Casio programming ever was as popular as TI programming was in 2008, though.

Late 2006

Late 2006 too (who else is enough of a calc nerd to setup his IRC client scheme to look like a calc? XD

And I just found this again o.o

http://www.omnimaga.org/oldsite/vol1iss1.pdf

This was a newsletter Omnimaga had in June 2005, but the newsletter was discontinued after only one. I was interviewed in it :P

And attached below is Illusiat 2002 logo (altough this is not really related to Omnimaga site :P)

hehe thanks, if it wasn't for the fonts being a little big for my needs and loads of characters (especially japaneese) not showing up fine, I would still use it today.
