Metal is my favorite genre by far. :DDD
Nothing beats some good ol' good progressive death metal when programming. ;)
Anyone else listen to metal here? 8)
-
Actually, I'm more of a classic rock person. Think 50-60s kinda thing.
-
Not much into metal.
A few songs are good... but I'm a hardcore techno fan.
Other than that, I listen to some forms of rock.
-
dragonforce ftw
-
I added a "Other kind of metal" option in your poll, because none of the other options applied to me.
My favourite band is DragonForce, altough from CD1 to 3 it sounded pretty much the same so I was getting worried they would fall into lack of originality, but then came their 4th album, which was quite different and still cool. I hope they improve live though, because apparently the quality of their shows is questionable, especially since they can't play some of their songs live due to being edited with computers sometimes.
I am more into power metal because I prefer stuff with actual chord progressions and especially epic ones. From my favourite to less favourite band it would be DragonForce, Sonata Antartica, Stratovarius, Blind Guardian, Gamma Ray, Nightwish, Kamelot, Rhapsody and Helloween.
I don't mind some Metallica and Iron Maiden from time to time, but I get bored after a while. I prefer epic melodies like in Rhapsody when I code. In fact most of my RPGs were coded while listening to these bands, except maybe Gamma Ray and Dragonforce, as I started listening to them later)
Besides power metal, I am more into EDM/Rave music/Italo Disco

Oh yea, power metal scene is good -- Nightwish is pretty awesome.
Dragonforce-- err, all their songs sound like the same thing over and over again. Through the fire and flames is like their only song that doesn't sound the same from every album they have made.
I'm assuming you like clean vocaled metal from the bands? ;o
I, personally, like screamed\growled vocals more -- I dunno why but clean vocals imo slow down the music. :{
-
I don't mind screamed/growled vocals much, but as long as the music chord progression is good. A lot of death/dark/doom/hardcore metal seems to lack the later, same for most rap
An example of growl/scream vocal metal song I like is "Into Battle", by Ensiferum. "Hardrock Hallelujah" from Lordi is another example, altough in this song they don't growl/scream that much

Ah, viking metal \ folk metal ftw.
There vocalist left to make the band wintersun which is power\folk\black metal and which I like better. You should check them out :P.
And you say you like music as long as its good progression then do you like music like this (2nd one):

If you do, welcome to the technical brutal death metal scene lol.

i consider myself a hip-hop person. i like classic rock and some of the more recent rock, as well as japanese pop, and loads of other stuff.
EDIT: the phrase i was looking for was "the sort of stuff found on DDR" lol. Though if i hear a good song from a different genre i wouldnt be biased against it. i dont segregate much by genre
-
I mostly like Rage Against the Machine-type metal, which I think is heavy metal.
-
I love alot of different types of music, Metal, Jazz, Classic rock, progressive rock, grunge, some jpop and japanese metal, classical, blues, opera, some techno et.al.Really, anything as long as it's good. Metal has a special place with me though, I can always listen to metal no matter my mood. I choose "other" because I like almost anything that falls under the metal genre with the exception of glam metal and black metal. As far as singing styles, anything goes as long as the singer is talented and I like their voice. ^_^ Some faves include: Dream theatre, Queen's Ryche, Manowar, Stratovarious,Deep Purple,Led Zeppelin Most anything with Ronnie James Dio, Yngewie Malmsteem, Guns N Roses, Blind Guardian, Dragonforce, Korn, Disturbed, Queen, Godsmack, Iron Maiden, Judas priest,Black Sabbath, Linkin Park, MSI, System of a down, Maximum the Hormone, Epica, Nightwish and Older metallica. Just to name a few. ^_^

I dont like hip-hop much personally, in fact it's the genre i dislike the most after opera and some country (when it borders on folklore and has some good rhythm like local music then I'm fine), but i love three songs that are exceptions in particular:
Coolio Feat. Tupac - Gangster Paradise
Highland - Se Tu Voi (my favourite)
T.I Feat. Rihanna - Live Your Life (i like this on a lot too, but it's mainstream and just came out, I expect to get bored after 3 months max. I think the bit that got me hooked the most was the pitched up Numa Numa/Dragostea Din Tei parts scattered through the song)
-
Over time I've grown to like hip hop more and more. My favorite groups are The Roots and A Tribe Called Quest (I know, the standard hip hop bands for non-hip hop fans).
I don't like metal much, at all. I don't know why, it just never really appealed to me. That being said, there are some metal bands I do like, such as Dream Theater and Queensryche. Rarely even listen to them though.

Not as much but after the middle of the song it started getting quite good for my needs, especially the solo parts. I need a lot of triple string pads like in some power metal or trance songs most of the time. If you want an example, here's that song: &fmt=18 (my favourite part is the chorus and the part right before the chorus) or you can listen to one of my song (altough it gets a bit repetitive for non-dance-music fans) here &fmt=18 or this one that is a bit less repetitive &fmt=18
I might be a bit biased though in my metal preferences, being a video game music fan like Star Ocean 2, Tales Of Phantasia and the like and also a fan of some DDR/Stepmania music
