FIRST Robotics Competition Discussion
« on: February 16, 2014, 05:51:07 am »
It is probably too late in the season to post this, but hey, it's before stop build date!

For those of you who don't know what FIRST Robotics Competition (FRC) is, I direct you to http://usfirst.org
It's an international high school robotics competition where teams from all over the world build a robot in six weeks to play a game announced on the first Saturday of January each year.

This thread is for the discussion of said competition.

So, anyone else here on a team? If so, which one? Do you have a video or pictures of this year's robot? etc.

I'm on team 1127. We have won one regional (2007) and have gone to world championships once (2008). I joined my freshman year (2012-2013).
I don't have pictures of this year's robot atm, sadly.
What about you guys?
I am Bach.

Actually I think there was already a topic about this a while back, but I remember calc84maniac participated before. Juju also participated into something similar in Montreal during Spring.

I'm on team 3233, POKER Robotics.

How is everyone doing with autonomous mode? Ours is pretty solid. No pictures of the robot yet.

I'm on team 3061 (Huskie Robotics), and we're doing pretty well this year. Our robot drives, and our shooter shoots, and I have no idea about the status of the collector. I don't actually have any pictures, I'll take one tomorrow.

I did some robotics teams in the past (and still am), but they weren't affiliated with FIRST.

If you look at my avatar, I'm on Team 2067, Apple Pi.

We did very good in 2012 and won WPI and were finalists at Connecticut regional.
We did pretty good in 2013, being finalists at Connecticut regional, losing to 195, who was a phenomenal full court shooter.
Here's a video of us losing to them in the finals; we're the one in the middle on the left:

Here we are yesterday at a scrimmage:

We missed that shot and most others (we never tuned the shooter), but at least we have swerve drive!

Anybody here in the northeast?

Yeah. We actually made one of those shots while swinging on the bar :P

And pimath, we will get that shooter to work; we still have two days!

Our robot still has yet to shoot. At least our drivetrain will be great this year - shifting 6 CIM with six 6" diameter 2" wide wheels, all connected with polycord. I don't have a picture of this year's robot, but here's one from last year - we are using similar construction techniques.

EDIT: I don't have a photo, but here is a picture of the CAD model:

Hmm, that's quite a short lever arm on that shooter.  How is it powered?
That'll be one powerful machine with that drivetrain!

Also, does anybody wanna suggest some names for my robot?
One suggestion was "Crabapple" because our team name is Apple Pi and we're using swerve drive... but I don't like it :P

Here's a video of our robot at a scrimmage on Saturday.

The ball wasn't fully on the catapult, so it got stuck in the harvester a bit, which threw everything off. So the ball fired straight up, and our cocking mechanism failed and got stuck so we couldn't reset the catapult.

We bagged the robot 45 minutes ago. Surprisingly, everything was working for the most part today and we were ready ahead of schedule.
