Hokee dokee, this weekend I shall place my order with newegg. I decided it's my turn to have my own topic so I can quit mooching off other peoples'.
Looks good? Any last changes anyone would suggest? Shipping is expensive, but I looked, all the parts are cheaper on newegg than at fry's or best buy (the two large computer parts stores around me) and if I still save over $100 even with the shipping! o.o
EDIT: I also thought that maybe instead of a zalman fan I'd try the stock HSF first and see how that works and get a good speaker set instead.

Hokay, I sent my order to newegg! o.o
I decided to get speakers instead of the fan. I'll use the mail-in rebates to get a fan later if the stock HSF doesn't cut it.

I just ordered my laptop and am now waiting for it.
Intel Core 2 Duo @ 2ghz
2GB RAM
Nvidia Geforce 7900 Go w/256mb memory
160GB HDD
8x Super-Multi Drive
17" widescreen
802.11 a/b/g/Pre-N
Bluetooth
Vista Ultimate 32 bit
can't think of much else in it, but it will rock.

Nice. Too large for my tastes, but powerful. Some of my friends went for the uber-powerful gigantic laptops. Be prepared for heavyness, too-hot-for-lapness, and limited battery life though.
I myself prefer a slightly more mobile computer, but those are great if it's going to be a mostly stationary computer.
One thing though - Why 32-bit vista? o.o
;; Core 2 Duo is a 64-bit cpu you know... Unless your computer is just a Core Duo and not a Core 2 Duo.

because they didn't offer 64 bit, that, and there are issues with 64bit operating systems.

Hokay, well for my rig I'm gonna dual-boot sabayon x64 and vista business x86. I would use vista x64 if I could, but I get the 32-bit version for free from my university's MSDNAA thingy. Like hell I'm gonna pay for it! B)
I thought both versions of vista would have the same compatibility problems but I dunno.
Mebbe I'm glad I only have the x86 version?

dame lotsaa people building comps this summer, heres mine:
XFX MB-N68-ILT9 LGA 775 NVIDIA nForce 680i LT SLI ATX Intel Motherboard 189.99
Intel Core 2 Duo E6420 Conroe 2.13GHz 4M shared L2 Cache LGA 775 Processor 186.00
eVGA 256-P2-N554-AX Geforce 7600GT 256MB 128-bit GDDR3 PCI Express x16 Video Card 115.99
MSI TurboStream 600W ATX 12V V2.2/ EPS 12V/ BTX 600W Power Supply $79.99
Kingston ValueRAM 1GB 24-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 533 (PC2 4200) Desktop Memory (*2) 94.98
ZEROtherm BTF90 92mm Silent UFO CPU Cooler $39.99
so about 707 dollars plus 50ish for shipping is $760ish. but what case would you guys suggest to fit all this stuff? i have no clue what would or wouldnt work for a case. spengo, you can get any OS for free if you know how. like my current xp pro. also i see you're playing stalker, a sick game if i say so myself.

not bad. Didn't want to get an 8600GTS instead of the older 7600GT? $150 after the rebate on newegg. And the 8600GT is only $99 after rebate! Cheaper AND more powerful.
http://www.gpureview.com/show_cards.php?card1=385&card2=512
You sure you don't want DDR2 800MHz? And though ValueRAM is cheap, but it will suck for overclocking. The corsair xms2 set I got is only $113 and is much better ram. Also, I prefer to have legal copies of OSses though I'm a big pirate for everything else.
Stalker, for example, I found on demonoid. (shh!) Quite good actually! Big open-ended, non-linear, and somewhat realistic FPS. For a case, mostly just get one you think looks good so you don't hate it. Removeable mobo trays are a nice touch and 120mm fans is another thing to look for - big, quiet, and move a lot of air. If you're building a gaming PC make sure it has room for at least 2-3 fans. (doesn't have to come with 'em, just make sure it has the empty slots at least)
The smilodon case I got is pretty good, cheap (only $80), and has lots of fans and very easy to work in. It has a removeable mobo tray and just about everything flips out so you can work in it. My one complaint is lack of 120mm fan support.
It's got one 120mm on the front and 3*80mm fans. (and an additional optional 80mm fan slot) If the stock fans are suck and loud I figure I can always get better fans for it though. Antec tri-cool 80mm's are like $6 each or something - those are nice and quiet.

Don't let
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819117092R
die! I know he costs a fortune, but still... %)
Hmmm, I think it's time for me to get a new laptop...what's the best laptop for a moderate amount of gaming and a pretty low budget?

i dont see this nasty deal on the 8600, can you send me a link. all i found was this:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductList.aspx?Submit=ENE&DEPA=0&Description=eVGA+8600+GTS&x=0&y=0
and neither are 99$. perhaps the deal is gone, the 7600 is going for 95 with rebate not 150 though. i looked at the corsair but the ratings weren't great, only 64% 5. or was i looking at the wrong thing (91 after rebate) i guess ill get it anyway as it IS cheaper and i trust you more than the ratings.
and ya, the whole pirating thing and me commenting on stalker are connected. actually that and the new computer thing is connected as this crap heap wont run medieval 2. i had to use my moms comp for stalker but was kicked off for taking up like the 15 GB of mem it takes. as for my OS being illegal, microsoft "says its legit" so im not worried. lol vista was like 3 days out and they already were cracked.
@netham is this #2 or #3? lol i wish i was that rich
edit: nvm found it

No no, that's the 8600GTS. the 8600GT is the one that's only $99 and that would be
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814130085
. And the 8800GTS is a lot cheaper now that they have a 320MB version. Goes for $280 these days. The GTX is still over $500 though.
Also @ ratings on corsair ram: a 3-egg performance ram > a 5-egg value ram.
You notice the people that bought value ram were mostly happy that it plugs in and works. People that get performance ram want it to OC and be uber. Also, a lot of the lower ratings were from people whose mobos don't support 4 sticks of ram w/out a 64-bit OS yet. The 680i is one of them, sadly, but if ya get one from a reliable company like evga or something, bios updates will keep comin' and problems such as that should be fixed.

yeah i said i found it. i realized that i was in the wrong thing when i saw you writing GT and i writing GTS. also im only getting 2gb so thats fine.
also a bit offtopic i hope you get a better ending in stalker than i did, since i always stole people's stuff, my ending involved getting rich and dieing, it was a terrible ending but i guess you can get a ton of em.
