The WiiU is powerful
« on: January 23, 2013, 03:11:12 pm »
There may be some discussion about how powerful the WiiU really is. Like the tile says it is, in its own way.

So no hope for WiiU4Nspire by calc84maniac? :'(

Just kidding, but like every console, we won't see it used to its full potential until a few years later since developers still need to learn how to.

Nintendo is always a step ahead with hardware.......first ones to do touch on handheld thingies (nintendo ds), first ones to use motion control remotes, and no first ones to use a gpgpu :D

Yep. Compare early calc games to newer ones.

It's actually the opposite if we include ticalc.org O.O (in average)

That reminds me, I hope that Nintendo didn't make the new hardware too hard to code either, because this happened with the Atari 2600 and PS3 if I remember and as a result there were much fewer games coming out for those consoles (although for PS3 this wasn't nearly as bad) and in Atari case didn't make full use of the hardware (eg Compare Mario Bros Atari 2600 with Solaris).

I don't know exactly but it is a single-touch screen.

From what I understood it's similar to the Wii, the main point is that physics stuff and heavy math should be done by the GPU and not the CPU.

The atari2600 was not only hard to program. It was also less powerful. Look at the best nes game compared to the best atari2600 game.

So you are telling me nintendo are back to decent hardware? The Wii was terrible compared to the PS3/xbox360.

EDIT:
Nintendo is always a step ahead with hardware.......first ones to do touch on handheld thingies (nintendo ds), first ones to use motion control remotes, and no first ones to use a gpgpu :D
The first motion control was the power glove and don't forget about the 3DS.

I'm sure the WiiU hardware is nowhere close to what will most likely be the next Xbox and Playstation, but it's a big improvement over the Wii. If I remember correctly, the Wii hardware is on-par with the GameCube

That said what will matter too is the game selection. When the PS3 came out it took 5 years until it has a decent game selection (by decent I mean not limited to just 3 genres, such as racing, sports and first person shooting in PS3 case. On the 360 you had RPGs, platform games and space shooters years before.
