I don't exactly remember if the PS2 was more or less powerful actually.

Doesn't the Wii have an external chip to emulate a GC?
If so, Wii >> GC (Yes, Wii shifted right GC bits)

Edit: Does the WiiU still have this?

So it's WiiU > Xbox360 > PS3 > Wii > Xbox? > GC > PS2

The GC and xbox were very similar power-wise. Gamecube had better texturing features but the xbox had programmable shaders which allowed better special effects. Both could push the same amount of geometry and both were superior to the ps2. The xbox was basically a PC rig which meant it inherited a lot of PC games as a result. The Wii is more powerful (and more power efficient) than GC/xbox however. More like a more efficient and slightly faster repackaging, with updated graphical features.

From what i can tell the WiiU is superior to the current gen in technology, but its not a great deal in processing power. The WiiU is orders-of-magnitude more power efficient than 360/ps3 im told (which is why it can be so small).

Im sure the WiiU will be able to produce perfectly acceptable next-gen looking games.

It will be interesting to see what sony/ms inherit from Wii/WiiU in their next offerings.

Sony will most likely go on an anti hacking rampage again like they did before by trying to send someone in jail for no valid reason and their new console will most likely be even more locked down than their previous ones x.x

(Sadly) not everyone enjoys that franchise, so you won't get a lot of sales for a legend of zelda console (which only plays legend of zelda).

Well, nintendo has a big enough fanbase that it hardly matters atm. It doesn't hurt that no one else is vying for the crowd they are in consoles.

True. They are freaking insane about their hardware... Well, that's why i bought a Wii instead of a Playstation 3! Homebrew is important to me, i want to do whatever i want with the hardware i pay for.

Well, nintendo has a big enough fanbase that it hardly matters atm. It doesn't hurt that no one else is vying for the crowd they are in consoles.

Also true. Wii dominated the console charts for a long time in China and Japan, and was also the most sold console of this generation for a long time . And there are a lot of Chinese ppl! :) I don't know if this is still true (console chart and most sold console), but Wii made its point of view... With low hardware and relatively low price, you can play a lot of games...

I held that controller in my hands in the store and it was heavy as hell. It turned out that they mounted a huge metal structure on the back to make sure it doesn't get stolen. How am I supposed to get a feel for the controls if the controller weighs 30 pounds???

Sadly, a lot more money can be made from bad games such as FIFA.
