Windows - a cloud OS
« on: November 18, 2013, 10:16:10 am »
There have been rumors that future windows versions will be a cloud OS.

http://www.digitaltrends.com/computing/windows-9-rumored-for-next-year-windows-10-to-be-cloud-os/

I would personally hate seing windows becoming a cloud OS, why not just take all our private files and send them to the NSA servers directly?

Anyways, just another reason to use linux :D

And what about us without a constant internet connection? I personally hate the cloud, but I don't use twenty computers in which I have to constantly sync files between so yeah...
If you need to transfer files why not get a... FLASHDRIVE(or an external harddrive) :D

Totally, I mean come my micro sd is 16g and its so tiny. I hate cloud though I'm really annoyed that iTunes uses it, it would suck as an os.

Sounds like clickbait to me.

More cloud-integration software/service wise is one thing but the 'cloud' as a core part of the OS? I don't think so. Not to say it won't happen in the future.

Yeah i would be concerned about my privacy if such OS happened, assuming there were exploits. Also I can't imagine how big the Internet bill would be for people with bandwidth caps.

The privacy implications of a cloud OS are impressive indeed.
However, assuming Microsoft has such plans, there's already a cloud OS on the marketplace: Chrome OS. The Chromebooks powered by Chrome OS are selling reasonably well, and they're well-behaved enough wrt. installing standard Linux distros (Chrome OS is based on Linux, anyway).

Yeah but most people are disappointed by ChromeOS since you can do barely anything with it. Even Linux users who know their stuff are limited on it.
Android on the other hand is quite successful for its cloud integration, and it doesn't depend on it (actually one could live without any gapps, but it'd be quite boring).

Merp. I am gonna stick to windows 7 for another 6 years if this is what they're doing (or completely switch over to linux.
How exactely will you be able to do hardware intensive stuff when your desktop runs remotely?
If you like my work: why not give me an internet?
