In Australia, the exchange rate is lower than in Canada and USA, so everything seems to cost more. Also, shipping must be incredibly expensive.

The other possibility is that he used UPS ground by mistake and was forced to pay an extra $30 fee at delivery. I myself almost had to pay $230-240 for the calc because in addition to the $24 shipping charge and the $129.99 calc price, UPS added hidden fees of $65 and I would have needed to pay $12 in city bus transit to go get the item. I finally got the calc shipped back then re-shipped to me via a different shipping carrier, as it was not my fault if UPS was charging hidden fees (which should have been announced before I click purchase).

5325: There are community members you have known on the Internet for nearly a decade (true story, with tr1p1ea and Iambian, although I never got to meet them IRL D:)

@DJ: Actually the Australian dollar is about the same as the U.S. dollar at the moment. :) I'd guess they were charging a lot for the calc since it's new, and it was most likely shipped internationally which can get expensive unfortunately. It depends on where it is shipped from and if there are any import fees (these vary country to country).

5328: Your calc slide case has be used as a drink coaster before. :P
5329. You refer to calculators as calcs, even outside the internet.
