funny how this works lol
« on: February 22, 2012, 08:17:15 pm »
I walk down the hall in my high school programming on a chunky, color lacking TI-84+ se calc.......people laugh and stare at me

I walk down the hall in my high school programming on a thin (ner), shiny, new, colorful CASIO PRIZM fx-CG10 calc....people drop there jaws in awe, quickly run over and ask "WHAT IS THAT!?" and say "that is one kick butt calc man"

This ^^ happened to me today lol, not sure how to respond but it made me laugh

Both are amazing calculators in my opinion.....but when you judge a book by it's cover

edit: how would you respond?

Exactly what happened in my school. Every day in pre-calculus I programmed or did something on my 84 because I didn't feel like paying attention to stuff we already learned (we're still reviewing things from last year -_-), and though no one made fun of me, no one cared. Now I come to school with my Prizm and everyone's all googly-eyed over it because it has colors and displays sin(60) as root(3)/2 lol.

I get kind of the same reactions, except in some of my situations there's been speculation about NASA and stuff.  Normally I tell them it costs the same amount as the 83+s that the school lends out, then watch the minds=blown XD then pull the 84 put of your other pocket
(tho I did get some classic reactions with zStart's image viewer...)

If you ask me it's more impressive to take an old, junky calc (read: TI) and make something amazing with it than to do something with the Prizm, because it's harder.  Nothing against the Prizm, just my opinion.

^^ same I also hope the Prizm game coders community grows more now that we have more prizm owners. I'm trying my best to achieve this as you may all have noticed my newly found interest in the prizm and its language :)

I agree with you, although my junky old calc is the hacked fx-9750GII. ;)

It is kinda like that at my school, i got a CX CAS befor school started and then got my free prizm last week.
there are basicly two groups of poeple here...
the ones that are in complete awe, and the ones that are completely jelouse and cant stand the fact that they cant play tetris or doom, or just the fact that they dontt have a color calc

And there's the kids who make fun of you for having a graphing calculator...
Seriously, most of the kids in my school (in 7th grade :P) don't know what a graphing calculator is. They call it a "nerd calculator". :( Also, at least 10 times a day, kids ask me these exact questions:
"Are you playing games on that?"
"Can you play pacman on that?"
"Can you text with that?"
"Can you get on the internet with that?"
"How much did that calculator cost?"

Yup. Exactly. The. Same. Questions.

I pointed both groups to the casio survey.

The only two questions I got with my prizm are:
- Can you go on the internet with that? <-- Multiple, multiple times
- How much did that cost?
Current Projects:
-Sparta GUI Library: 25% - Alpha Stage
-Grapher - 75% - Beta Stage *on hiatus
