Pokemon Blue: TI
« on: April 27, 2010, 05:40:40 pm »
So, I serously debated releasing information on this for the longest time, because I don't want to one-up tifreak8x.  However, I have been sitting on this project for two fricking years, and I think it's about time.  This is a four-page application (sorry) that aims to be a almost perfect recreation of Pokemon Blue version.  The "almost" only comes in when the layout of the screen is concerned, because there is a considerably smaller screen on the TI-8X.  However, I did notice that the fastest frame rate and best quality of image from WabbitEmu was at the higher screen-size, so I bumped it for the screenshot.  The "perfect" part comes with the fact about how anal I am in developing this.  I have recreated most of the sprites perfectly, as well as the maps and text.  I have positioned everything on-screen at exactly the same places as they are on the GameBoy version.  I have copied every single NPCs text word-for-word.  I looked up the algorithms used to calculate how everything works (attacks, damage, experience, catching Pokemon, odds of entering a battle on each step).  I even fade the screen at the exact same speed as the GameBoy version does when going through doors.  I only use 4 levels of grayscale because the GameBoy has four levels of grayscale.

Without further ado, a screenshot:

*EDIT* As requested, I attached a screenshot at the normal size.
Spoiler For Early Download:
This is fake.  I noticed in this thread (http://ourl.ca/4668/87685) that DJ had done something similar, and I'm hoping that I got him with this one. ;D

OH SO VERY CLEVER LOLOL.

As I said on #Cemetech, please at least change the aspect ratio of the screenie to 3x2 before trying to put one over on the poor little Omninoobs. :) I'm sure the Omnixperts can see through the humor in your attempt quite readily.

And so comes the first h8r.  Only problem is he did something unexpected.  I changede the screen ratio because I thought people would claim that it was off from the original.  On-calc, the screen is different, so not everything is as perfect as it could be.  So, after I finished the screenie, I changed the ratio so that it would all match.

Yeah, I kinda forgot.  But this is a good attempt, no?  Also, as you can see I'm trying to trick a certain individual, so try not to post about it for now.  Disregard my next comment.

NOTE TO ALL READERS:
Please, please read the first post in its entirety before posting any more stupid questions or reading any of the subsequent posts.  Thanks.

Yeah, I would have put it in randomness, except that takes away from the authenticity.

Nice attempt but I knew right away it was fake as soon as I saw the distorted pixels. :P

Sarcasm aside, I kinda agree. The best way for it to work is to edit the gif directly so the resolution is smaller and make sure it remains the same color depth and to not screen capture any text. Another solution is using a GB/GBC/GBA emulator where you can set the resolution to exactly 1/2 or 1/3. And in the case of the Minish Cap, what I did with CalcCapture is just capturing a 96x64 portion of the emulator window.

I'll move this to Randomness, though, now, because it is more spam.

EDIT: regarding Pokémon, if it was real, unless you would have been working on it for a very long while and have a lot in it done, I would have recommended adding some differences from other Pokémon games in it, because there are currently six other Pokémon clones going on in the TI community (Shimbs, Finale TI, Metagross111/JoeYoung, Tifreak8x, AMKiller and Buckeye Dude). 2 are actively progressing (tifreak8x and Buckeye), another saw a recent update saying it's not dead and the others, despite not being updated regulary, are supposedly still alive or did not officially died.

Ya, it was a nice try. Another thing that gave it away though is the bluish tint that Squirtle had :P

I thought JoeYoung's Pokemon game was a Pokemon Colosseum game instead of a clone?

If you had read the full post, I believe I mentioned this had been in the works for two years, and was four app pages.

well I skimmed over it since I was in a hurry earlier. Sorry if I am retarded and stupid like you probably think about me.

However even if it was 2 years you could have been working on it on and off like tifreak8x did. Tifreak8x has been working on PP for 5 years and it's still only 15% done.
