Announcement Despite most Omnimaga staff being busy, we still managed to finally get the March newsletter out. Note that the fact it came out on April 3rd instead of the end of March is not because of that, however, as we always release the newsletter on the Sunday that is the closest from the first of the next month. A lot of things happened in the TI community in March and we are glad to see such continued calculator development despite the arrival of devices such as the iPad and the multiplication of smart phones in the world. In 2005, some people thought that the TI community would eventually die due to more powerful handhelds like the Nintendo DS, GP2X and PSP being around and computer programming becoming more and more attractive. Finally, there was just a big lull from the End of 2007 until Spring 2009. Even the lack of open-mindedness towards third-party development from Texas Instruments and some of their actions did not put us down. Instead, the community fought and won. As said in the previous newsletter, we are accepting member-contributed news articles, so if you believe you have something worthy of addition to the CGPN, then PM yunhua98 with the article, and more likely than not, it will appear on the next issue. Note that we reserve the right to modify any content, but you will of course be credited no matter what. Anyway, here's the newsletter, finally, and we are somewhat happy that Sunday wasn't on April 1st, because we had no idea for a newsletter April Fools joke and we already had the OS 2.71MP hoax being planned. Notable releases for March 2011
More Nspire CX News Since its announcement last month, more information has been released about Texas Instrument's new color screen calculator, the TI-Nspire CX. Unfortunately, not all of this news is good for the TI Community. Most tragically, the new TI-Nspire CX will not include a TI-84 Plus keypad like the old clickpad and touchpad non-CAS models. This is a big blow to supporters of the Z80 line of calculators, as people with the original TI-Nspire could enjoy many popular 84 games without actually having to own a TI-84 calculator. And some more bad news: it seems like the TI-Nspire CX will not come with a slide case included. Thankfully, with the complaints of calculator enthusiasts from France, TI France has agreed to include the slide case with CX models sold in France, but TI in the United States and elsewhere has not made any comments on the situation. Hopefully they too will someday decide to include a cover to protect the beautiful color screens of the Nsprie CX! TI-84 Pocket Last month, the announcement of the TI-Nspire CX, Texas Instrument's first graphing calculator with a color screen, made the news. In addition to the TI-Nspire CX, Texas Instruments also announced an intriguing new French-only calculator, the TI-84 Pocket.fr. Although this calculator was soon removed from Texas Instrument's French website, more information has trickled out about it. Apparently, the calculator has the same screen size as the original TI-84 Plus, but the overall dimensions of the calculator are smaller. Sadly, this seems to be a France-only product for now, but it is always possible that TI will release it in the United States and elsewhere at a later data! 68k Revival! Although the 68k community has been a little dead over the past few months, it is still showing some clear signs of life! First of all, Ranman has been working hard on a 68k version of the classic arcade game Jumpman with lots of interesting progress! In the French community, Omni member Loulou has released two new games for 68k calculators, Piou Piou Traverse la For |
