« on: February 28, 2011, 04:50:11 pm »
Hello, I'm Jim Bauwens, and I'm the little big brother of Stefan Bauwens.
I program for the TI-92 Plus / TI-89, and Basic is my main language. I can program in C, but for some freaky reason I never really created any real project in it. I'm also a enthusiastic computer programmer (Python/Bash/C), and I use Linux as my main platform (and I oh so love it :)

My current project is (a second version of) Block Breaker, a puzzle/platform game for the Ti-92/v200. Its almost done, and I'll probably post it here somewhere in this month for bug testing/reviewing (if you guys want to do that).

Of course we wanna test/debug/review your project :D

You are 'the little big brother', is that older or younger than him?

Also, why is your topic named '*Waves'?

Hi and welcome on the forums. I noticed you have been around for quite a while actually, since you signed up on TI-Freakware almost 5 years ago. I remember back then the 68K series was still incredibly popular in Europe. I wish it still was, because there were many great games for it.

I would like to test your game, but unfortunately I only got a TI-89T/TI-92-I D: (weirdly enough, I have like 21 calculators, but not even the TI-84+ and Voyage 200. It was a bit because I bought many old calcs at like $10-30 on Ebay, though, which is impossible outside United States for newer calc models)

I'm older, he is 15, and I'm 18.

Because I wanted find an unique name, and *Waves seemed fun to me (waving to someone, greeting :)

@DJ_O, they are still popular enough for me :)
I (my family) have 5 working 68k calcs, and only 1 z80.

Oh I mean for example, back when the other Omnimaga site moved to Invisionfree, about 50% of our userbase were 68K programmers and back then Ticalc.org had to split the POTY surveys in half because there were too many entries, so they didn't fit in one poll. Afterward the 68K series kinda went less popular because most experienced coders moved on due to 68K community drama started by one single person, then TI released the TI-Nspire and stopped marketting the 68K series as hard. Afterward the z80 series became popular again, as you can see on ticalc.org, but the 68K scene did not pick up as much yet. On Omnimaga, until both you and Jim joined, we only had like 3 68K calculator owners out of like 200 regularly active users.

It doesn't help that there are possibilities that TI discontinues the entire 68K line altogether (The last OS update was in 2005 or 2006)
Hopefully the arrival of more 68K programmers will increase the interest towards this platform again, providing TI doesn't discontinue it all.

Lol yeah about the latter. Also I think there are more people who knows each others IRL. aeTIos knows LordConipuiter, Phenomist knows Leafiness0, , Deep Thought knows two forum members and Bwang knows Verdant (although the latter doesn't count since Verdant got permbanned <_<, same for one of Deep Thought's friends' X.x)

The 68K community drama mostly occured on French sites, which were way more active than english 68K sites actually. Eventually some veterans got fed up and left. The problem was solved 5 years after damage started being done. I'M sure we could maybe help reviving the 68K community, since we managed to do a lot with the z80 side after the 2008 lull (which was caused by similar issues, but not as bad). It might just take longer since the 68K userbase is smaller in general.

More great programs will actually help. :D

Welcome! I own a TI-89 myself, but I never ended up getting an 92/voyage 200. I was at one time considering the voyage 200, but they are (and always have been)near impossible to find in stores around here (I prefer to buy in store if possible). Anyhow, I hope you like it here! =)
