Hey Guys!
« on: June 07, 2010, 07:51:50 pm »
Found this great place after I was looking into getting back into TI programming and found this awesome thing called the Axe Parser, which is just perfect for me. Seeing as how I'm a Computer Science major, it's pretty similar to other languages I've used (mostly C), all while keeping it in BASIC syntax with on-calc editing and compiling.

Right now I'm going to college and taking math classes right now, so I'll have plenty of time to code now. When I was in high school, I was pretty good with TI-BASIC on my TI-83, impressing all my friends with their TI-84+SE's by showing off all the programs I made. I remember my last project on it was an RPG done entirely in BASIC, which was unfinished because it ended up taking up the entire calculator's RAM - 1k to prevent ERR:MEMORY (most of my programming was spent optimizing and preventing memory leaks between programs).

Now with my TI-83+SE and Axe, I hope to actually finish an RPG as well as any other projects I feel like doing on my free time. I don't know if it will be at the professional level I've seen here, but if I ever get around to finishing it, I might upload it here to share.
I do sprites and stuff, so yeah.

Welcome to Omnimaga. I hope you enjoy your stay. You should be receiving some complimentary peanuts shortly.

We'd love to see what programs you have up your sleeve if you wanna share them :)

Alright, sounds delicious.

Right now I'm just getting used to Axe. I don't think I've really finished any big projects, just a bunch of small ones. Mostly because the old 83 had only so much to put on it. Once I get the hang of Axe, I'll be sure to submit a game or two here.
I do sprites and stuff, so yeah.

Welcome!

Axe really is as good as it sounds. My only complaint with it thus far is the high compiled size (for me, usually ends up about double the source unoptimized) but even that is pretty much my fault for being a lousy programmer.

Thank you for using Omnimaga airlines, and enjoy your meal!

If you get good enough by september, you might consider entering the summer axe contest!

Hi! Glad to see you around :)

I am glad you are interested into calc programming. Hopefully the new language should suit your needs.

Don't worry about not being at the level of programming here. Because of the large amount of good looking programs that came out in the past few years on Omnimaga, some new members might think we are all "pro" programmers and that the bar is very high in terms of what we consider as good when members showcase their projects, but as the front page introduction says (and as it always have been on Omnimaga), we are very open minded about what new members have to offer and it doesn't matter how good the programmer is and what language he uses to program. If new programmers need help creating their project we will be glad to help out and give suggestions. Everyone had to start somewhere, after all. ;) (I'm still an Axe Parser newbie, sort of, despite having used TI-BASIC for almost 9 years :P)

Welcome! Since you already have some programming experience (C and TI BASIC) transitioning to AXE should be easier for you. Glad to <s>have some fresh meat, and another victim to Rickroll >:D </s>  see more new faces around here! I'm sure you'll enjoy your stay. =D

Thanks guys, I can't wait to dig into those peanuts.

Hmm, Well, seeing as how I'm taking a few classes over the summer - one being a math class - I should have plenty of time to get my Axe skills up and might take part in that coding contest. I've only used it for about a week or so but I can already think of some amazing things that it can do (if only I knew how to implement them all).

I've actually already been rickroll'd a few times before registering, but I like it. It really adds some 'zazz' to the place.
I do sprites and stuff, so yeah.

The bad part is when we start embedding rickrolls inside everyone's signatures with a few occasional redirects ;D

j/k we're not that bad :P

Some randomness is cool indeed sometimes (well providing it's done moderately) otherwise it gets somewhat boring if the place is too serious D:

Thanks guys. I'll probably be sticking around here for a while because I have a lot of free time between now and the Fall semester. Even then I'm not taking that many classes, so I'll have enough time to get pretty good at Axe (hopefully) and maybe even submit a game or two here.
I do sprites and stuff, so yeah.

Probably not. Programming on the calc is a great way to keep my programming skills up, and since my major is focusing in programming, I don't plan on leaving so soon.  ;D
