Mdjenkins86 - Hey Kevin!
« on: September 06, 2011, 12:44:55 am »
Hello, my name is Mitchell Jenkins... I was a damn good 89 Basic programmer back in the day and was working on a project called TSOD.  I also did a few tutorials... its nice to see the site is still up and running...  I wonder if Kevin remembers me... Well, after all this time I have decided to finish my project... but it has moved platforms once again... It is now an Android project and I am designing it in full 3D... I was wondering if I would be able to post update on this sight like in the good old days!

Thanks!  I still actually have the prototype on my calc but its been years since I have fired it up.  I  realize that finishing this project will be  a lot of work... but anything worth anything is worth some work!  I have already put tons of man hours into it... I will keep everyone up to date and also post prototypes for anyone with a android phone...

I thought your first name was different (I remember your ticalc.org profile and it started with D)? O.O

Anyway yeah I remember you and it's nice to see you again. I remember The Sword of Darkness and back when you became active around the time Omni RPG site got its Invisionfree board. Afterward you came back around April 06 I think, but not very long. I was sad when I saw TSOD died. :(

I'm glad it resumed, even if for a different platform (unfortunately a TI-89 version would not be popular anymore because most people now own a TI-Nspire or TI-84 Plus, although it would still have been nice to see another BASIC masterpiece). An android version sounds cool, since a bunch of people around here got an Android device.

You could possibly announce it in the computer projects and ideas section, since we now have an entire non-calc programming portion on the forums. :D

I hope you stay around for a while and enjoy the site (well... the new one, as this one opened in late 2008 after the old one shutted down several months before). Good luck on your project :D

EDIT: Btw I'm actually Kevin. I switched to xlibman shortly after you left the first time then later DJ Omnimaga. I'M no longer admin nor calc programming, though.

EDIT 2: I also got screenshots of the original 89 projects O.O

EDIT 3: (They're still hosted on Omni, but I didn't have the URLs, until checking an old backup of the site)

I would like to take a crack a programming it sometime...  Well yes I am back and so is the project.  I will post under Computer Projects.  This time it will be finished!

BTW do you do any type of non calc development now?

Ah yeah Desmond Jenkins. I remember from a Reuben Quest comment on ticalc.org back in 2005, and yeah for some reasons I seem to remember some of that stuff for a long while.

As for the TI-Nspire, it depends of the OS. OS 2.1 or lower can use ARM9 assembly, C and extremly limited TI-BASIC (worse than the TI-80  and 81). Games like DOOM can be ported to it in C, for example, or GBC/NES emulators. However, TI tries to block ASM development on their platforms like how Apple/Sony locks down their devices, so OS 3.0 has no ASM/C yet. They added Lua programming to that OS, though, so some games, including color ones on the CX, can be made, although they are much slower than the C/ASM ones.

And yeah every calc screenshot posted in Omnimaga news from 2004 to 2009 are still on Omni webspace. They used to be at http://www.omnimaga.org/images/screenshots/, but now we can't view the folder listing anymore so we can only find stuff if we remember the URL. After 2010 we stopped hosting every news image, though.

Also I attempted computer programming around 2003, but did not like it, same for non TI-BASIC/Axe parser languages on calcs. I realized programming more complex languages was not my thing. I'm mainly doing electronic music, now.

EDIT: Oh I almost forgot, new members gets peanuts! (Although you probably got some in 2006 when you returned for a while :P)

Peanuts!!!

Too bad about the NSpire... I did mess around with LUA for a while... but for homebrew psp development.
NICE BEATS!  The more you do the better they will get!
Making music is one of my pastimes as well now.  It sounds like a perfect track for a game.
I was originally making a game for the IOS and made some tracks that I am now using for my game... I figured it was easier to make original music than pay someone lol...

Do you make music too? You could post some in the music showcase section of the forums :D

I mainly did dance stuff before, but lately I've been more into power metal-ish stuff. I even made a remix of one of my 2003 dance songs.

By the way was it made with Magix? I see it's in vid response to a Magix Maker 16 song. I used 14 in 2008 to make two of my songs actually, although it took so incredibly long because my previous computer could barely handle MMM. Nice song also.

OKay cool I will post some songs there!

Yes I use MM16.  I noticed that 16 can be very sluggish on startup especially, but my PC handles it okay. this of the first tracks I make... All the tracks I use for my game :)  I really like making music.

Ah ok. My problem in MMM14 is that I absolutely loved the Revolta plugin that came with my trial version, but when I used about 4-5 VST instruments at once, my computer lagged like crazy during playback. So much that often the software froze and I kept losing progress.

I didn't have as many problems with Sony ACID Pro 7, but ACID had a glitch that did not save VST settings when saving projects, so they were lost when restarting ACID.

I mainly use that old Playstation thing from 1999, though, despite knowing MMM14 and ACID 7.

Well as far a the freezing goes... I noticed that the program requires alot of memory to run and chunks of CPU power for playback.  I would like to experiment with Acid Pro 7... *to the youtube tutorials!*

Also Revolta Looks very descent... I will let you know if I can get this plugin working in Music Maker 16

I think my problem was due to having a crappy sound card.

As for Revolta, one thing I wished I could have figured out when I had MMM14 is how to use it in ACID.

Howdy mdjenkins86 :D I was going to ask for a summary of what TSOD was (as in was it a game, math program, quadratic solver, etc.), but the screenies DJ provided kind of answered that. DJ_O is just cool like that, I guess :)

So, yeah, welcome back!
