New Person Here.
« on: June 15, 2010, 12:37:22 pm »
Hello. I hate introduction posts, but that doesn't stop me from introducing myself....I hate them because I don't really have a good idea of how to introduce myself, is all.
You can call me Holmes or McCoy, I answer to both. I'm a relative newcomer to coding, but I learn fast, and not in a linear manner, so don't be too surprised if I know something pretty advanced and yet don't know something that is really basic.
Can't think of anything else to say about myself at the moment...

nemo: TI-Basic only. I'm limited by the fact that I don't have a cable to connect my computer to my calculator.

ztrumpet: Just a TI-83+.

Ah, okay.  If you're pretty new to Ti-Basic then I'd like to point you here: http://tibasicdev.wikidot.com/home
It's a great site for learning commands, but there isn't as much forum activity as here. :D

I totally agree on the lack of forum activity there. xD

edit: Which of course, is not necessarily a bad thing. I like the slow pace there, because I don't go onto that particular forum often enough to be bothered by the slowness there (I've got about nine tabs open right this second, plus I'm lurking/chatting in two separate IRC channels, somebody's gonna have to miss out on having my lovely presence 24/7).

Nice view. :D
Do you have any projects planned, or are you just attempting to learn the language?  Good luck with it all. ;D

I do have a project in mind, two, in fact.
A multiplication table sort of thing, and a periodic table of the elements program that is completely written in TI-Basic, and without using a pic to display a table.

I have a feeling that the multiplication table project will be the easier of the two....

Hey welcome here ^^

I hope you enjoy your stay and that you don't mind the high activity that reigns over here sometimes (altough it might go down this Summer). Usually, I simply check the Axe sub-forum then most projects, and when I have more free time, I check the rest :)

Also I hate introducing myself too XD it took me two hours to write mine, even if most of it was just past programming history that I already mentionned elsewhere. I like the intro forums, though (which was inspired from Calc Haven forums) because it makes the community feel more open towards new members.

Programming-wise, we welcome both new and advanced coders so don't worry. Do you plan to program stuff like games, by the way?

Also, as a suggestion for your no-link-cable issue, if you ever need an ASM/Axe library for a BASIC game, you can use http://asmtools.omnimaga.org/asmunsquisher/ to get the hex code from the computer program then manually copy it on the calc (be careful to not do any typos!). Then once comes time to send your program to the computer you just copy your BASIC code in http://www.cemetech.net/projects/basicelite/sourcecoder2.php and the ASM libraries that are on the computer included with your 8xp files. Alternatively you can use Wabbitemu to program and extract your files with F7. However, be careful to not accidentally quit without saving.

I may at some point in the future program stuff like games, when I'm a bit more comfortable with coding (and have a link cable). I've got plenty of storyline ideas for RPGs (I write a lot of fanfiction and original fiction) as it is right now.

Thank you for your suggestion, I will most certainly keep that in mind (and add the links to my bookmarks as well).

That sounds great.  I really like that you write your own storylines, as it provides a unique and cool twist on each game. :)
