No calculator yet, but I think I'll get one (intro topic)
« on: April 15, 2011, 06:12:07 pm »
Hi, I'm Spyro543.

I joined here because I'm thinking about getting a TI-84 Plus, and trying out the programming, but I don't have one yet.  :'(

I've mostly been in the Other Calc-Related Projects And Ideas forum, and those ideas, screenshots, and programs are simply AMAZING. I really like Darl181's projects.

When I get a TI-84+ I'll post more. But for now I'll just have to see what's going on here.  :)

Hi Spyro543, and welcome to omnimaga!
Glad you liked the projects thread, I actually still have to write readmes for the majority of them :P

Formalities aside, have some peanuts...
(btw these are the first Darl181 peanuts ever given)

Hello! Have some of my CYAN peanuts:

Click to eat...

I hope you enjoy it here and that you become a great programmer.
I personally don't really have a z80 calc(except a ti 83). My calculator where I mainly program on is my trusty ti 89.

Now what calculator would you recommend? TI-Nspire touchpad, TI-84 plus, or TI-92? These are the three options I am considering.

go for the 84+
it has a more dedicated community, is allowed on major tests, doesn't have crippled programming(unlike the nspire)
EDIT: very true, ashbad. the prizm is a good choice too :D

I sure hope I get a graphing calc soon becuase it's driving me crazy  to keep coming on here and not able to actually test any of the programs  :'(.

I would also suggest the Casio Prizm, if you're looking for the future of calc programming :) but if you want the most currently supported platform, go with an 84+ (SE might be best version for programming and gaming) ;)

I'm sure the 84+ support will stay evident for many years to come though ;)

Or an nspire with an 84+ pad :P a little incompatible, but you still get ndless and such, as well as full axe support.

The 92+'s a) replaced with the voyage 200 and b) doesn't have much going for it, iirc the community for that line is kind of dead.

The nspire is gaining in popularity, probably b/c of games like ndoom but most of what seems to be going on is hard-core hacking atm :P

Personally I'd go with the 83+/84+ /SE 's (z80 series), they also have a growing community, but the base is already established and it's fairly easy to get started.  Also there's a ton of helper programs (and games) for the z80 series and programs like Axe Parser.
