Can someone help me?
« on: September 19, 2011, 10:03:38 pm »
Does anyone know if there is a Tetris app written in Lua for a TI nspire? I have looked all over the internet and can't find one. If not, could someone help me learn how to make one?
Hmmm.... I wonder how to do this.....

There is, but I'm not sure it would be legal to release it...
Very long story that I'm too tired to look for :P
With that being said, I think we can definitely help you learn Lua :)

Whenever I start a new programming language, I always learn the very basics, (like a crash couse) and then look up some commands to experiment with until I learn it.
It always helps to ask people who know the language specific questions to learn more. That is what omni is for!

I tend to enjoy jumping in headfirst, and asking questions later.
I would suggest reading those tutorials for sure, but also go to ticalc.org, download some games and code, and try to follow it.
And, of course, when you have questions, feel free to ask them (half of the questions in this subforum are mine :P).
Have fun!

Tetris, meh. Just because a game was good back then doesn't mean it is good now.

It doesn't necessarily mean it's bad either, though, if you personally dislike it. You need to be careful when saying stuff Boot because sometimes it sounds like you are trolling. X.x

However I would recommend against starting with a Tetris clone as first ever project, because that is quite a challenge to do. In the entire time I did TI-BASIC I never figured out the algorithms to make one.

when starting to learn lua, i advise to open a simple game, like pong 1.0 by karl noss (http://www.ticalc.org/pub/nspire/lua/games/pong.zip and choose previous version pong 1.0). Open it next to http://wiki.inspired-lua.org and try to find out what it does. I did it with this pong too, and it was very useful, as i learned how to program in about 1 week or so :)

and for the tetris, i'm making one, watch http://ourl.ca/13855 but it isn't finished yet
