I always ran Minecraft Server on a separate computer that ran nothing but it.

I wish I could afford to do that... sniff sniff

Well, that's pretty simple, you find some old computer with a decent amount of RAM, you install some server distro of Linux on it (not Windows because the core eats up lots of RAM), disable everything but the core, networking and SSH so you get the maximum of RAM free and there we go. The first incarnation of mc.julosoft.net was hosted at home with an old Pentium IV I got for $15 before I moved it to a friend's server.

Remember the day the walrus started to fly...

I finally cleared my sig after 4 years you're happy now?

two recommendations: buildcraft has updated by now, and computercraft's pretty cool as well ;)

As you can see, I have a preference towards 'industrial'/'modern' mods...

Optifine and Rei's minimap, along with the Water Shader and GLSL mods if your graphics card can handle them. That's the true Minecraft experience.

EDIT: edited in the GLSL mod suggestion

Then maybe the GLSL shaders as well(these add stuff like better shadows, waving wheat, etc.)

Don't forget FiniteLiquids. It's really awesome, and doesn't break too many other mods (not any past modloader, as far as I know, but most land generators won't generate the new water)

Hey Juju, how did you set up your server? You told me earlier that you're using craftbukkit, and that's what I'm trying to use. I have all the files in home/spyro543/bukkit and I followed the directions on the website. I type in craftbukkit.sh, and I get "command not found". I have no idea what's happening here, and when I use ls, it shows that there is in fact a craftbukkit.sh file.
